  1. 1. Virulence mechanisms of pathogenic Yersinia : aspects of type III secretion and twin arginine translocation

    Author : Moa Lavander; Åke Forsberg; George Salmond; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; Yersinia pestis; Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; bacterial pathogenesis; type III secretion; twin arginine translocation; virulence mechanisms; YscU; YscP; YscF; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : The pathogenic bacteria Yersinia pestis and Y. pseudotuberculosis are related to the degree where the former is considered a subspecies of the latter, and still they cause disease of little resemblance in humans. Y. pestis is the causative agent of lethal bubonic and pneumonic plague, while Y. READ MORE

  2. 2. Drosophila-Serratia as a host-parasite system : defence mechanisms and virulence factors

    Author : Casper Flyg; Stockholms universitet; []

  3. 3. Foodborne Virulence: Staphylococcus aureus Enterotoxins A and D

    Author : Nina Wallin; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; environmental factors; phage-encoded virulence; in vivo; enterotoxin D; enterotoxin A; gene expression; Staphylococcus aureus; virulence;

    Abstract : The development of new, minimally processed food products challenges traditional concepts of food safety. How pathogenic bacteria behave in these new matrices is not known. To fill this knowledge gap and enable the production of food that is safe for the consumer, more information on virulence expression of pathogens in food matrices is required. READ MORE

  4. 4. Streptococcal virulence and the coagulation system

    Author : Kristofer Wollein Waldetoft; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Streptococci; virulence; coagulation; intrinsic pathway; evolution;

    Abstract : This thesis explores streptococcal virulence from both mechanistic and evolutionary perspectives, where the mechanistic studies focus on interactions with the human coagulation system. We describe interactions between streptococcal surface proteins and components of the intrinsic pathway of coagulation and the kallikrein-kinin system in human plasma, as well as to how these surface proteins are produced in different growth phases. 5. 5. Virulence Factors and Motility Mechanisms of Pathogenic Neisseria

    Author : Jens Eriksson; Ann-Beth Jonsson; Helena Aro; Tone Tønjum; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neisseria; Virulence factors; Type IV pili; PilT; PilU; NafA; NhhA; Twitching motility; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Abstract : Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Neisseria meningitidis are two closely related human specific pathogens. Neisseria gonorrhoeae is the causative agent for the sexually transmitted disease gonorrhea and often causes asymptomatic infections in women which is a cause of infertility. READ MORE
