  1. 1. Micromechanical modeling of cleavage fracture in polycrystalline materials

    Author : Mateusz Stec; Jonas Faleskog; Andre Pineau; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cleavage fracture; probabilistic modeling; brittle to ductile transition; cohesive zone; visco-plastic material; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik; Other technology; Övriga teknikvetenskaper;

    Abstract : Cleavage fracture in ferritic steels can be defined as a sequence of few critical steps. At first nucleation of a microcrack takes place, often in a hard inclusion. This microcrack then propagates into the surrounding matrix material. The last obstacle before failure is the encounter of grain boundaries. READ MORE

  2. 2. Computational modelling of machining - Mesh objective ductile damage modelling

  3. 3. Deformation and Fatigue Behaviour of Aluminium Alloys for High Specific Power IC Engine Applications

    Author : Elanghovan Natesan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cylinder head; aluminium; constitutive models; thermo-mechanical fatigue; fatigue; ageing; mechanical behaviour; A356;

    Abstract : The development towards higher specific power and lower displacement engines in recent years has placed increasingly high thermal loads on the internal combustion engine materials. Further, the advent of hybrid power trains placing higher demands on quick starts and a rapid approach to maximum power necessitates the automotive industry to move towards a more robust computational thermo-mechanical fatigue life prediction methodology to develop reliable engines and reduce developmental costs. 4. 4. On Peritectic Reactions and Transformations and Hot Forming of Cast Structures

    Author : Hani Nassar; Hasse Fredriksson; Rian Dippenaar; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; peritectic reactions; massive transformations; thermal analysis; Fe-base alloys; steels; growth irregularities; hot forming; compression testing; flow stress; grain size.; Metallurgical manufacturing engineering; Metallurgisk produktionsteknik; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with peritectic reactions and transformations that occur during the solidification of many alloys. Peritectics are believed to be a major cause of crack-formation in many steels, thus, good knowledge of the mechanisms by which these phenomena occur is essential for preventing such defects.
