  1. 1. Visual Flow Display for Pilot Spatial Orientation

    Author : Lars Eriksson; Claes von Hofsten; David Lee; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Optic flow; visual flow; peripheral vision; spatial orientation; spatial disorientation; postural control; somatogravic illusion; human centrifuge; flight displays; head-up display; head-mounted display; Psychology; Psykologi; Psychology; psykologi; Psykologi;

    Abstract : Pilot spatial disorientation (SD) is a significant cause of incidents and fatal accidents in aviation. The pilot is susceptible to SD especially in low visibility when the visual system is deprived of information from outside the cockpit. READ MORE

  2. 2. Visual thinking, visual speech : a semiotic perspective on meaning-making in molecular life science : how visualizations, metaphors and help-words contribute to the formation of knowledge about proteins among upper secondary and tertiary level students

    Author : Carl-Johan Rundgren; Lena A E Tibell; Richard Hirsch; Ute Harms; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Molecular life science; visualizations; metaphors; help-words; Subject didactics; Ämnesdidaktik;

    Abstract : Molecular life science has become one of the fastest-growing fields of scientific and technical innovation. An important issue for tomorrow’s education is to meet the challenge posed by various facets of molecular life science. READ MORE

  3. 3. Bio-inspired retinal optic flow perception in robotic navigation

    Author : Björnborg Nguyen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; robotic navigation; active fixation; visual perception; bionics; Retinal optic flow fields; gazing; optic flow; retinal flow path;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the bio-inspired visual perception of motion with emphasis on locomotion targeting robotic systems. By continuously registering moving visual features in the human retina, a sensation of a visual flow cue is created. An interpretation of visual flow cues forms a low-level motion perception more known as retinal optic flow. READ MORE

  4. 4. Blood flow assessment in cerebral arteries with 4D flow magnetic resonance imaging : an automatic atlas-based approach

    Author : Tora Dunås; Anders Eklund; Anders Wåhlin; Jan Malm; Einar Heiberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Circle of Willis; 4D flow MRI; Cerebral arteries; Vascular disease; Stroke; Automatic labeling; Probabilistic atlas; Cerebral blood flow; Neuroimaging; Magnetic Resonance Imaging;

    Abstract : Background: Disturbed blood flow to the brain has been associated with several neurological diseases, from stroke and vascular diseases to Alzheimer’s and cognitive decline. To determine the cerebral arterial blood flow distribution, measurements are needed in both distal and proximal arteries. READ MORE

  5. 5. The flow of pulp suspensions

    Author : Helena Fock; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Pulp suspensions; Velocity profile; Concentration profile; Wall layer; Particle image velocimetry; Flow behaviour; Computational fluid dynamics; Ultrasound velocity profiling;

    Abstract : Large quantities of pulp suspensions are handled in the pulp and paper industry and knowledge of their flow behaviour is very important in the design and operation of process equipment. Despite this, there is still a lack of a fundamental understanding of the mechanisms of the pulp suspension flow. READ MORE
