  1. 1. Regulation of Vitamin D 25-hydroxylases Effects of Vitamin D Metabolites and Pharmaceutical Compounds on the Bioactivation of Vitamin D

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Maria Ellfolk; Uppsala universitet.; [2008]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CYP2D25; vitamin D 25-hydroxylase; transcriptional regulation; vitamin D; CYP2R1; CYP2J2; CYP27A1; phenobarbital; efavirenz; fibroblast; LNCaP; PHARMACY Pharmaceutical biochemistry; FARMACI Farmaceutisk biokemi;

    Abstract : A 700bp portion of the promoter of CYP2D25, the porcine microsomal vitamin D 25-hydroxylase was isolated and sequenced. The computer analysis of the sequence revealed the existence of a putative VDRE at 220 bp upstream of the transcription start site. READ MORE

  2. 2. Aspects of Vitamin D Prevalence of deficiency and impact on musculoskeletal parameters

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Anne Björk; Uppsala universitet.; [2017]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vitamin D; CYP2R1; Vitamin D receptor Gene; Polymorphisms; Muscle Strength; Endocrinology and Diabetology; Endokrinologi och Diabetologi;

    Abstract : Vitamin D is central in calcium turnover, and adequate levels are important for skeletal health. It is not clear how large contributions from food and sunlight are in Swedish primary care patients, considering the low radiation of UVB in Sweden and fortification of some foods, and whether differences exist between patients of immigrant and Swedish origin. 3. 3. Vitamin D Hydroxylating Enzymes and Analogues in Parathyroid Tumors and Breast Cancer

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Ulrika Segersten; Uppsala universitet.; [2005]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; hyperparathyroidism; breast cancer; vitamin D; CYP27B1; CYP24A1; vitamin D analogues; ketoconazole; vitamin D receptor; Kirurgi; MEDICINE Surgery; MEDICIN Kirurgi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Abstract : In hyperparathyroidism (HPT) raised serum concentrations of ionized calcium is caused by increased secretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH) by parathyroid tumors. Active vitamin D, 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3, is known to suppress PTH secretion and to reduce proliferation of parathyroid tumor cells. READ MORE

  4. 4. Boning up on Vitamin D Observational Studies on Bone and Health

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Greta Snellman; Uppsala universitet.; [2011]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vitamin D; fracture; BMD; assays; genes; mortality; cohort studies; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi;

    Abstract : The primary function of vitamin D in humans is to maintain sufficient circulating calcium concentrations. Low vitamin D levels could result in excessive calcium resorption from bone. Vitamin deficiency may therefore decrease bone mineral density (BMD), resulting in an increased risk of fracture. READ MORE
