  1. 1. Analytical vortex solutions to Navier-Stokes equation

    Author : Henrik Tryggeson; Mats Lyberg; Maarten Brons; Växjö universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; conical vortex; Navier-Stokes equation; analytical solution; 2-D vortices; turbulence; vortex ring; stretched vortex; coherent structures; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : Fluid dynamics considers the physics of liquids and gases. This is a branch of classical physics and is totally based on Newton's laws of motion. Nevertheless, the equation of fluid motion, Navier-Stokes equation, becomes very complicated to solve even for very simple configurations. READ MORE

    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; turbulence; vortex; draft tube; hydro turbine; filter; RANS; LES; swirling flow;

    Abstract : Swirling flows are common in technical applications, e.g. turbines, pumps, fans, compressors and combustors. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modelling air―water flows in bottom outlets of dams

    Author : Ting Liu; James Yang; Anders Wörman; Michael Pfister; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Air pocket; Air entrainment; Bottom outlet; Critical velocity; Critical submergence; CFD; Experiment; Vortex; PIV; Two-phase air―water flow; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap;

    Abstract : If air is entrained in a bottom outlet of a dam in an uncontrolled way, the resulting air pockets may cause problems such as blowback, blowout and loss of discharge capacity. In order to provide guidance for bottom outlet design and operation, this study examines how governing parameters affect air entrainment, air-pocket transport and de-aeration and the surrounding flow structure in pipe flows. 5. 5. Analysis of Turbulent Flows-From Chaos to Structure

    Author : Farideh Ghasempour; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Large Eddy Simulation; Vortex dynamics; Turbulence; Flow visualization; Vortex statistics; Coherent structure;

    Abstract : The development of models for several phenomena occurring in turbulent single and multi-phase flows requires improved description and quantification of turbulent structures. Phenomena such as, for example, mixing, coalescence and break-up, are often fast and nonlinear. READ MORE
