  1. 1. Climate and Energy Use in Glazed Spaces

    Author : Maria Wall; Institutioner vid LTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Byggnadsteknik; Building construction; design tool; field measurements; calculations; thermal comfort; cooling; heating; energy requirement; solar energy; climate; atrium buildings; glazed spaces;

    Abstract : Glazed spaces ranging from small glazed verandas to large atrium buildings have become a common feature in architecture. A glazed space is greatly affected by aspects of the outside climate such as insolation and temperature. READ MORE

  2. 2. Windows of Opportunities : The Glazed Area and its Impact on the Energy Balance of Buildings

    Author : Mari-Louise Persson; Arne Roos; Maria Wall; Ida Bryn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Engineering physics; building simulations; DEROB-LTH; glazing; window size; energy efficiency; glazed area; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : The impact of window area on the energy balance of a building was investigated by simulations in DEROB-LTH. The glazed area was varied in three types of buildings with different types of glazing and for several climates.One low energy house was compared to a less insulated house but identical in size and layout. 3. 3. Efficiency factors for space heating system in buildings

    Author : Christian Brembilla; Thomas Olofsson; Ronny Östin; Mohsen Soleimani-Mohseni; Bjørn Reidar Sørensen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Efficiency factors of space heating; hydronic panel radiator; hydronic floor heating; multilayer wall; numerical modelling; room control volume; decrement factor; time delay; heat conduction; heat convection; heat radiation; heat storage; thermal inertia; Euler solver; Newton-Raphson method; synthetic weather file; feedback and feed-forward control strategies; adaptive control; validation methodology; uncertainty bands; robustness of model predictions; thermostatic booth simulator; differential sensitivity analysis; transient model of panel radiator with multiple storage elements; active thermal mass; benchmark performance indicator; linear regression model; calibration through uncertainty bands; hybrid model of low-energy building: law driven data driven; outdoor temperature compensation heating curve; solar radiation model; finite difference method; heat equation;

    Abstract : The thesis focuses on the efficiency of the space heating system. In particular, the efficiency factors measure the efficiency of thermal zone. The efficiency factors measures how the energy is used in a space heating. READ MORE

  4. 4. An Experimental and Theoretical Study of Decentralized Gas Fired Liquid Heating

    Author : Rolf Christensen; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; liquid heating.; efficiency; environmental impact; emissions; corrugated tube; heat transfer augmentation; heat transfer enhancement; energy conservation; decentralized heating; Natural gas; steam replacement; gas firing; Carbochemistry; petrochemistry; fuels and explosives technology; Petrokemi; bränslen; sprängämnen;

    Abstract : The effects on the energy situation in industry when gas fired liquid heaters replace steam have been determined by energy surveys performed in a brewery and a slaughterhouse, measurements of the performance and emissions from liquid heaters installed in these industries, and theoretical analyses of the potential energy saving. The theoretical study in the first part of the project provides information that allows assessment of the effects on the energy situation, of part or complete conversion to decentralized heating, under the conditions prevailing in the industries concerned. 5. 5. Durability of District Heating Pipes

    Author : Stefan Forsaeus Nilsson; RISE; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; reuse of excavated material; district heating pipe; moisture diffusion; pipe joint; stone indentation; polyurethane foam; polyethylene; district heat distribution; long-term strength; buried pipe;

    Abstract : This thesis is focused on mechanical loads and moisture related problems with a potential to critically harm the functionality of pre-insulated district heating pipes and pipe joints. Directly buried pipeline bends are investigated with respect to limiting deformations from a thermally induced lateral displacement. READ MORE
