  1. 1. Robust Numerical Wall Functions Implemented in OpenFOAM

    Author : Jon-Anders Bäckar; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; impinging jet; numerical wall function; Computational Fluid Dynamics; speed-up; OpenFOAM;

    Abstract : This thesis presents two new numerical wall models for computing Reynolds-Averaged-Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with low-Reynolds-number turbulence models. Theobjective is to considerably reduce the total central processing unit (CPU) cost of thenumerical simulations of wall bounded flows while maintaining the accuracy of anylow-Reynolds-number turbulence model. 2. 2. Mechanistic Modeling of Wall-Fluid Thermal Interactions for Innovative Nuclear Systems

    Author : Roman Thiele; Henryk Anglart; Xu Cheng; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; GEN-IV reactors; Wall heat transfer; Computational Fluid Dynamics; Wall functions; Reactor design; Supercritical water; Liquid metal; Energy Technology; Energiteknik; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Next generation nuclear power plants (GEN-IV) will be capable of not only producing energy in a reliable, safe and sustainable way, but they will also be capable of reducing the amount of nuclear waste, which has been accumulated over the lifetime of current-generation nuclear power plants, through transmutation. Due to the use of new and different coolants, existing computational tools need to be tested, further developed and improved in order to thermal-hydraulically design these power plants. READ MORE

  4. 4. Measurements and Prediction of Friction Drag of Rough Surfaces

    Author : Bercelay Niebles Atencio; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PIV; RANS; Turbulent Boundary Layers; Flat Plate; Resolved CFD; Hydrodynamics; Roughness Function; Wall Functions; Rotating Disk;

    Abstract : Owing to the increased sea transportation of goods, the environmental impacts of this activity are becoming more and more important, since a ship experiences resistance that directly affects its performance and fuel consumption. The growth of marine organisms (fouling) on ship hulls increases the roughness of the hull surface, which in turn causes a rise in ship resistance with a consequent increase in fuel consumption and greenhouse emissions of up to 40%. 5. 5. Numerical Modelling of Dissolved Air Flotation

    Author : Mia Bondelind; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD ; 2D; multiphase flow; one-phase; 3D; turbulence; Dissolved Air Flotation DAF ;

    Abstract : Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF), a well-established treatment method for water containing e.g. dissolved organic matter and Cryptosporidium, has previously been examined experimentally. However, most measuring techniques still suffer from disturbances from air bubbles and intrusion of the measuring equipment into the flow. READ MORE
