  2. 2. Water Supply in Tanzania and Performance of Local Plant Materials in Purification of Turbid Water

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH

    Author : Nancy Marobhe; KTH.; [2008]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Antibacterial effect; Coagulant proteins; Vigna unguiculata; Parkinsonia aculeata; Ion exchange; Tanzania water supply; TECHNOLOGY Civil engineering and architecture Water engineering; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur Vattenteknik;

    Abstract : Water supply services in urban and rural areas of Tanzania were reviewed and specific studies were carried out on water supply and on purification of turbid water sources using locally available plant materials in rural villages of Singida Rural District. The review showed that large proportions of urban and rural populations in Tanzania face acute water supply problems mainly due to poor planning, implementation and management of water supply projects, including an inability to address social, technical, operation and maintenance and financial issues. 3. 3. Photosynthetic water oxidation the function of two extrinsic proteins

    University dissertation from Umeå : Fysiologisk botanik

    Author : Tatiana Shutova; Umeå universitet.; [2007]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; photosystem II; Psb0; Cah3; water oxidation; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology Organism biology Plant physiology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi Organismbiologi Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : The solar energy accumulated by photosynthesis over billions of years is the sole source of energy available on Earth. Photosystem II (PSII) uses the sunlight to split water, an energetically unfavorable reaction where electrons and protons are extracted from water and oxygen is released as a by-product. READ MORE

  4. 4. Beta-Glycosidases from Hyperthermophiles as Biocatalysts

    University dissertation from Therese Hansson, Dept. of Biotechnology, Lund University

    Author : Therese Hansson; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2002]

    Abstract : The thesis concerns glycosyl transfer with use of b-glycosidases, most of them from hyperthermophilic organisms. Both optimisation of the reaction conditions and protein engineering in terms of site-directed mutagenesis were used to improve b-glycosidase-catalysed reactions. READ MORE
