  1. 1. Plant aquaporins

    Author : Ingela Johansson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; water deficit; calcium; plasma membrane; Plant biochemistry; channel; phosphorylation; Växtbiokemi;

    Abstract : Aquaporins are integral membrane proteins that specifically transports water. In plants, aquaporins have been identified in the plasma membrane and in the vacuolar membrane. READ MORE

  2. 2. Advancing the Implementation of Protective Measures for Drinking Water Sources in Sweden

    Author : Nadine Gärtner; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; water protection; mitigation measures; spatial planning; groundwater; surface water; drinking water; risk assessment;

    Abstract : The world’s drinking water sources are under growing pressure due to human activities, including infrastructure projects, agriculture, climate change, and the ever-increasing need for freshwater. Although there is a strong call to protect our source waters instead of increasing treatment efficiency at the drinking water treatment plant, the extent of protection measures is often hotly debated. 3. 3. Plant major intrinsic proteins - functional implications of expression and localisation studies

    Author : Laure Fraysse; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant biochemistry; immunolabelling; microarray; plasma membrane; aquaporins; plant; water; Växtbiokemi;

    Abstract : Plant water channels are members of the very old Major Intrinsic Protein (MIP) family, with representatives in bacteria, fungi, animals, and plants. The genome of the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana contains 35 MIP genes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Water Supply in Tanzania and Performance of Local Plant Materials in Purification of Turbid Water

    Author : Nancy Marobhe; Gunno Renman; Gunnar Jacks; Msafiri Jackson; Tapio Katko; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Antibacterial effect; Coagulant proteins; Vigna unguiculata; Parkinsonia aculeata; Ion exchange; Tanzania water supply; Water engineering; Vattenteknik;

    Abstract : Water supply services in urban and rural areas of Tanzania were reviewed and specific studies were carried out on water supply and on purification of turbid water sources using locally available plant materials in rural villages of Singida Rural District. The review showed that large proportions of urban and rural populations in Tanzania face acute water supply problems mainly due to poor planning, implementation and management of water supply projects, including an inability to address social, technical, operation and maintenance and financial issues. 5. 5. Extending Wastewater Treatment Process Models for Phosphorus Removal and Recovery : A Framework for Plant-Wide Modelling of Phosphorus, Sulfur and Iron

    Author : Kimberly Solon; Industriell elektroteknik och automation; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Benchmark Simulation Model; Anaerobic Digestion Model; Activated Sludge Model; Physico-chemistry; Phosphorus removal; Nutrient recovery;

    Abstract : As problems associated with shortage in resource supply arise, wastewater treatment plants turn to innovation to transform themselves into resource recovery facilities. Water groups worldwide recognize that wastewater treatment plants are no longer disposal facilities but rather sources of clean water, energy and nutrients. READ MORE
