  1. 1. Relationships between Atmospheric Circulation and Wind Erosion in Southern Sweden and Australia

    Author : Marie Ekström; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pedology; cartography; climatology; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi; Physical geography; geomorphology; Geologi; fysisk geografi; physical geography; Geology; sea level pressure; atmospheric circulation; erosivity; wind erosion; wind climatology; Scania; Australia;

    Abstract : Wind erosion is a serious threat to soil resources as it causes depletion of the fine fractions that may result in a less fertile soil. Wind erosion encompasses several processes of which many are related to climate variables. To date, there is little work performed on how wind erosion relates to climate and climate change. 2. 2. Global Climatology and Regional Modeling of Coastal Low-Level Jets

    Author : Muhammad Raza Ranjha; Michael Tjernström; Gunilla Svensson; Branko Grisogono; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coastal low-level jets; climatology; regional modeling; boundary layer; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : Localized coast-parallel wind-speed maxima at low altitude, known as coastal low-level jets (CLLJs) have important ramifications to the coastal climate and a number of human activities. This thesis documents the existence of the CLLJs around the globe including their mesoscale structure, dynamics and spatio-temporal variability. READ MORE

  3. 3. Space Weather - Solar magnetic variation and its impact on Earth's atmosphere

    Author : Fredrik Boberg; Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; klimatologi; kartografi; pedology; Physical geography; marklära; geomorphology; climatology; cartography; space weather - solar magnetism - solar wind - geomagnetic activity- North Atlantic Oscillation - climate change - neural networks- wavelet analysis; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; Astronomy; space research; cosmic chemistry; Astronomi; rymdvetenskap; kosmisk kemi; Fysicumarkivet A:2003:Boberg;

    Abstract : A solar magnetic field is continuously being created in the solar interior. As the field evolves outward through the solar atmosphere and into the enveloping heliosphere, it causes effects on a wide range of temporal and spatial scales. READ MORE

  4. 4. Swash Processes and Dune Erosion: Emphasis on Vessel-Generated Waves

    Author : Li Erikson; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi; Civil engineering; hydraulic engineering; geomorfologi; Fysisk geografi; climatology; cartography; pedology; geomorphology; Naturvetenskap; Physical geography; Natural science; swash; erosion; vessel-generated waves; dunes; offshore technology; soil mechanics; Väg- och vattenbyggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : In navigable waterways, owing to the relatively short fetches for wind wave generation, the free waves generated by moving vessels often produce the dominant wave action with respect to erosion of the shore. In response to the fairly recent introduction of high-speed ferries, combined with a planned expansion within the passenger- and car-carrying ship market, the need to model and predict coastline changes as a result of exposure to vessel-generated waves has become a topic of increased research. 5. 5. Simulating the palaeorecord of northern European lakes using a coupled lake-catchment model

    Author : Jüri Vassiljev; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; climatology; cartography; pedology; geomorphology; Physical geography; northern Europe; catchment geometry; Holocene; overflow lakes; climate change; Water- and energy-balance modelling; lake-level changes; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi; Geophysics; physical oceanography; meteorology; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; meteorologi;

    Abstract : A coupled lake-catchment model was developed to examine the controls on lake-level changes in currently overflowing lakes during Holocene. The lake energy-balance is simulated as the one-dimensional vertical heat transfer by eddy diffusion and convective mixing. READ MORE
