1. Pyrolysis of biomass. Rapid pyrolysis at high temperature. Slow pyrolysis for active carbon preparation
Abstract : Pyrolysis of biomass consists of heating solid biomass inthe absence of air to produce solid, liquid and gaseous fuels. In the first part of this thesis rapid pyrolysis of wood(birch) and some agricultural residues (olive waste, sugarcanebagasse and wheat straw in untreated and in pelletized form) athigh temperature (800ºC1000ºC) is studied ina free fall reactor at pilot scale. 2. Residues from biochemical production of transport biofuels in Northern Europe : combustion properties and applications
Abstract : Residues from biochemical production of liquid transport biofuels will probably become available for energy use if more gasoline and diesel is substituted. For processes used in northern Europe they amount to 35-65 % of the feedstock energy and despite interest from energy companies, their fuel properties are largely unknown. READ MORE

3. Combustion of solid waste from wood-based ethanol production
Abstract : The solid residue from wood-based ethanol production has a low ash content and high heating value, making it interesting for combustion applications, e.g. small-scale appliances and gas turbines. Combustion and gasification properties have been studied using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). READ MORE

4. Manganese ores as oxygen carriers for chemical-looping combustion
Abstract : Chemical looping combustion (CLC) is a fluidized bed system that circulates metal oxide particles in order to transport oxygen from an air reactor to a fuel reactor. In the fuel reactor a fuel reduces the oxygen carrier while producing CO2 and H2O. The oxygen carrier is then transported back to the air reactor and reoxidized. READ MORE

5. Exploratory experimental and theoretical studies of cyclone gasification of wood powder
Abstract : This thesis describes an exploratory experimental and theoretical study of gasification of wood powder in a cyclone gasifier. The generated gas could be used to operate a gas turbine in a combined cyclone power plant. READ MORE
