1. Additive-Driven Improvements in Interfacial Properties and Processing of TMP-Polymer Composites
Abstract : Efforts to address environmental concerns have resulted in new regulations designed to plan the reduction of plastic and synthetic polymer usage, necessitating the search for sustainable natural alternatives with comparable cost-effectiveness and mechanical performance. Thermomechanical pulp (TMP) fibres are one of the most affordable natural fibres that have no chemical refining in production, production have a high yield of 90-98% and TMP fibres have been demonstrated to improve the mechanical characteristics (strength, stiffness and toughness) of wood-polymer composites (WPCs) compared to the pure polymer. 2. Wettability of modified wood
Abstract : Despite many excellent properties of wood which make it suitable for many applications, it suffers from a number of disadvantages limiting its use. For instance, modification is needed to reduce water sorption and to improve decay resistance, dimensional stability and weathering performance. READ MORE

3. Engineering of lignin in wood towards functional materials
Abstract : Through 270 million years of evolution, the finely tuned hierarchical structure of wood has been optimized for efficient nutrient transport and exceptional mechanical stability. Its distinctive orthotropic constitution can provide inspiration and design opportunities for the development of novel functional materials. READ MORE

4. Palladium-catalyzed lignin valorization : Towards a lignin-based biorefinery
Abstract : The work described in this thesis focuses on the cleavage of the β-O-4′ bond, which is the most abundant interunit linkage in the lignin polymer. In the first part, three methods based on palladium catalysis have been developed and their applicability has been verified using lignin model compounds. 5. Cationic Dendritic Polymers and Their Hybridization with Cellulose Nanofibrils
Abstract : Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the major global threats to thehealth of humans, animals, plants and ecosystems. AMR arises whenbacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites undergo changes over time; makingmedicines such as antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals and antiparasiticineffective at treating infections.
