  1. 1. Particle emissions from residential wood and biodiesel combustion

    Author : Robin Nyström; Christoffer Boman; Dan Boström; Markus Broström; Michael Strand; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Combustion; biomass; wood; biodiesel; particulate matter; emissions; aerosols; physicochemical properties; size distribution; PAH;

    Abstract : Emissions from anthropogenic combustion sources, such as vehicles and biomass combustion, contribute significantly to ambient particulate matter (PM) both on a local and global scale. Exposure to ambient PM and air pollution in general is linked to a variety of different health effects and it has been estimated that as many as 2. READ MORE

  2. 2. Particles from biomass combustion -Characteristics and influence of additives

    Author : Linda S Bäfver; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; combustion; particle emission; wood; biomass; cereals; wood pellets;

    Abstract : AbstractHigh particle concentration in the air is a health risk, and particles from domestic biomass combustion are a significant particle source. In larger boilers, particles are an important element in the build-up of deposits on heat transfer surfaces, causing increased operation and maintenance costs. READ MORE

  3. 3. Phenolic Antioxidants in Wood Smoke

    Author : Jennica Kjällstrand; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; smoke; benzene; methoxyphenols; antioxidants; wood; lignin; combustion; biomass;

    Abstract : Smoke from residential wood burning constitutes a complex mixture of organic compounds with varying environmental and health effects. This thesis focuses on antioxidants and aromatic hydrocarbons emitted from small-scale burning. READ MORE

  4. 4. Principles and Models of Solid Fuel Combustion

    Author : Henrik Thunman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wood; single particle; modelling; fluidized bed; thermochemical conversion; fixed bed; coal; thermal conductivity; fuel loading; measurements; thermochemical properties; biofuels; combustion; grate;

    Abstract : Combustion of solid fuels stands for a substantial part of the heat and power production in the world. In this thesis different aspects related to the thermochemical conversion of solid fuels in fluidized and fixed beds are treated, such as: the combustion temperature of a fuel particle related to the surrounding temperature in a fluidized bed combustor (FBC); the fuel loading in a FBC; a transient description of the conversion of non-spherical fuel particles; the thermochemical properties and composition of volatiles released from wood; the thermal conductivity of wood during different stages of conversion; the modelling of a grate furnace; the general combustion behaviour of a fixed bed on a reciprocating or a travelling grate; and finally, the design and construction of experimental units for investigation of combustion in a fixed bed. 5. 5. Combustion Chemistry Investigation of Liquid and Solid Fuels

    Author : Åsa Håkansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gasoline; flame; GC MS; heptane; combustion; pyrolysis; kinetics; emissions; wood; RME;

    Abstract : The aim of this work was to study the combustion of liquid and solid fuels with the emphasis on intermediates and products. Depending on the structure and the complexity of the fuel different reactors and methods were used. Small-scale laboratory reactors were built and chemical analysis and evaluation methods were developed. Heptane. READ MORE
