  2. 2. Multifunctional roles of plasmin in inflammation Studies of animal models on rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, wound healing and infection

    University dissertation from Lund University

    Author : Jinan Li; Umeå universitet.; [2005]
    Keywords : Plasmin; complement; inflammation; wound healing; infection; autoimmune disease; non-autoimmune disease; rheumatoid arthritis; multiple sclerosis; tympanic membrane; otitis media; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Plasmin has been suggested to be involved in degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM) and tissue remodeling during a number of physiological and pathological processes. The aims of this thesis were to study the functional roles of plasmin during pathological inflammation in autoimmune and nonautoimmune disease models of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), multiple sclerosis (MS), wound healing and infection. Abstract : Growth factor delivery may be useful to accelerate the rate of tendon healing. We studied Platelet Concentrate, which in effect can be regarded as a cocktail of growth factors relevant for tendon healing. READ MORE

  4. 4. Laminins and alpha11 integrin in the human eye importance in development and disease

    University dissertation from Umeå : Oftalmiatrik

    Author : Berit Byström; Umeå universitet.; [2008]

    Abstract : The extracellular matrix (ECM) offers a protective shelter for cells and provides signaling paths important for cell to cell communication. ECM consists of basement membranes (BM) and interstitial matrix. BMs provide mechanical support for parenchymal cells, influence cell proliferation, survival, migration and differentiation. 5. 5. Ridge alterations following tooth extraction and implant placement

    University dissertation from Umeå : Oftalmiatrik

    Author : Giuseppe Cardaropoli; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2006]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The purpose of the present series of investigations was to study the healing following tooth extraction and implant placement. In an animal model, the healing sequence of tooth extraction sites (Study I), the influence of the periodontal ligament (PDL) on the healing of extraction sockets and the effect of various biomaterial on the healing of bone defects (Study II), and the healing of different bone block grafts placed on the surface of a narrow ridge (Study III) were investigated.
