  1. 1. Extended impregnation kraft cooking of softwood : Effects on reject, yield, pulping uniformity, and physical properties

    Author : Katarina Karlström; Mikael E. Lindström; Elisabet Brännvall; Kristofer Gamstedt; Anna Jacobs; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high kappa number pulp; extended impregnation; softwood; spruce; picea abies; pine; pinus sylvestris; uniform delignification; kappa number distribution; reject; yield; tensile index; tensile stiffness index; SCT; starch multilayers; mechano-sorptive creep; hygroexpansion; dimensional stability; eucalypt; birch; acacia; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Abstract : Converting wood into paper is a complex process involving many different stages, one of which is pulping. Pulping involves liberating the wood fibres from each other, which can be done either chemically or mechanically. READ MORE

  2. 2. Isomeric yield ratios in nuclear fission

    Author : Zhihao Gao; Andreas Solders; Ali Al-Adili; Mattias Lantz; Stephan Pomp; Olivier Serot; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear fission; isomeric yield ratio; angular momentum; independent fission yield; ion guide; Applied Nuclear Physics; Tillämpad kärnfysik;

    Abstract : Isomeric yield ratios (IYR), referring to the relative yield of the high spin states of a nucleus to the total yield of all observed states, is an observable of nuclear fission that has the potential to improve our understanding of the fission dynamics. Apart from that, systematic observations of IYRs can also contribute to other areas, such as the validation of fission models, modelling of the r-process in stellar nucleosynthesis, studies of the antineutrino mixing angle, the safety of present-day nuclear reactors, and the design of advanced reactor systems. 3. 3. Aspects of extended impregnation kraft cooking for high-yield pulping of hardwood

    Author : Helena Wedin; Mikael E. Lindström; Martin Ragnar; Jorge L. Colodette; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Yield; pulp; kraft cook; carbohydrate; xylan; oxygen delignification; Hexenuronic acid; kappa number;

    Abstract : The long-term trend regarding wood is an increase in price. Because wood contributes to a large part of production costs, the efficient utilisation of wood is greatly desired to reduce production costs for kraft pulp producers. During the 1990s, the development of improved modified kraft cooking began, which led to higher yields. READ MORE

  5. 5. The relationship between climate, disease and coffee yield: optimizing management for smallholder farmers

    Author : Biruk Ayalew Nurihun; Ayco J. M. Tack; Kristoffer Hylander; Ivette Perfecto; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Agroforestry; Arabica coffee; climate change; fungal disease; host-hyperparasite interaction; insect pest; minimum temperature and maximum temperature; shade cover; shade tree species; smallholder farmers; yield; Ecology and Evolution; ekologi och evolution;

    Abstract : Climate change and diseases are threatening global crop production. Agroforestry systems, which are characterized by complex multispecies interactions, are considered to provide nature-based solutions for climate change mitigation and pest and disease regulation. READ MORE
