  1. 1. Xanthophyll Cycle in the Light of Thylakoid Membrane Lipids - Membrane Packing, Curvature Elastic Stress and Enzyme Binding

    Author : Anna Szilagyi; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; steroider; Lipids; steroids; membranes; Lipider; enzymologi; HPLC; laurdan; fluorescence spectroscopy; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; curvature elastic stress; enzyme binding; thylakoid membrane; membrane fluidity; lipid packing; histidine; VDE; zeaxanthin; xanthophyll cycle; mebran;

    Abstract : The xanthophyll cycle involves the light-dependent and reversible conversion of violaxanthin to zeaxanthin. The enzyme, violaxanthin de-epoxidase (VDE) catalyses the conversion of violaxanthin to zeaxanthin, via the intermediate antheraxanthin. VDE is a membrane-hosted enzyme during its activity. 2. 2. The xanthophyll cycle, its enzymes, pigments and regulation

    Author : Marie Eskling Carlsson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; zeaxanthin; xanthophyll cycle; violaxanthin de-epoxidase; thylakoid; spinach; regulation; purification; pigments; photoprotection; pH dependence; ascorbate; light stress; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi;

    Abstract : The xanthophyll cycle involves the light-dependent and reversible conversion of violaxanthin to zeaxanthin. Zeaxanthin has been implicated in the protection of the photosynthetic machinery from over-excitation. The enzyme violaxanthin de-epoxidase catalyses the conversion of violaxanthin to zeaxanthin. 3. 3. Violaxanthin De-epoxidase and the Xanthophyll Cycle

    Author : Anna Gisselsson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant biochemistry; zeaxanthin.; xanthophyll cycle; violaxanthin de-epoxidse; thylakoid; regulation; quenching; protonation; pH-dependence; light stress; histidine; Conformational change; domains; Växtbiokemi;

    Abstract : The xanthophyll cycle is a mechanism for short term adaptation of plants to varying light intensities. It involves a reversible conversion of violaxanthin to zeaxanthin, via the intermediate antheraxanthin, upon high light intensities. READ MORE

  4. 4. The photophysics and functions of some naturally occurring carotenoids

    Author : Helena Billsten; Kemisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; xanthophyll-binding proteins; vibrational relaxation; light-harvesting complexes; carotenoid aggregates; carotenoids; excited states; femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy; xanthophylls;

    Abstract : Carotenoids are one of the most widespread and important group of pigments in Nature and they can act as light-harvesting agents, photoprotectors and antioxidants. Mechanisms of their multiple functions are not fully understood mainly because their complicated photophysics involving ?dark? excited states. READ MORE

  5. 5. Violaxanthin de-epoxidase and its closest relative: identification and characterization

    Author : Kuo Guo; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photosynthesis; Carotenoid conversions; violaxanthin de-epoxidase VDE ; Violaxanthin de-epoxidase related protein;

    Abstract : Light is essential for plants and algae to process photosynthesis. However, excess of light will cause damage to the organism. A process called non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) is an important way for these organisms to protect themselves from photo oxidative damage. READ MORE
