  1. 21. Calcium transporting ATPases in plant cells

    Author : Malin Olbe; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Triticum aestivum; calcium; Brij 58; calmodulin; Ca2 signalling; inside-out; endoplasmic reticulum; plant; plasma membrane; proteolysis; P-type ATPase; spinach; Spinacea oleracea; trypsin; two-phase; wheat.; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi;

    Abstract : Plant cells carry Ca2+ ATPases to maintain the low resting level of cytosolic Ca2+ (0.1-0.2 µM) found in all eukaryotes. Plant Ca2+ ATPases are mainly located in the plasma membrane, the endoplasmic reticulum and in the vacuolar membrane, and consequently large Ca2+ gradients are created across these membranes. 2. 22. Ion channels and electrical activity in vascular smooth muscle: Effects of calcium store depletion, cholesterol and cholesterol-lowering drugs

    Author : Andreas Bergdahl; Kärlfysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fysiologi; Physiology; statins; endothelin; cholesterol; caveolae; smooth muscle; TRP; Ca2 channels; SOC;

    Abstract : Smooth muscle cells (SMCs) in the vessel wall contract to regulate blood flow and pressure, a function essential for normal circulation through tissues. On the other hand, migration and proliferation of SMCs are important factors in vascular disease, such as atherosclerosis and restenosis following surgical dilatation. READ MORE

  3. 23. On Cholecystokinin and Phospholipase A2 in Insulin Secretion - an Experimental Study With Reference to the Development of Diabetes

    Author : Erik Simonsson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 2 Diabetes; Insulin Resistance; Islet; Beta-cell; Insulin Secretion; Ca2 -Dependency; Intracellular Signalling; Phospholipase A2; Cholecystokinin; Non-glucose Secretagogues; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : In view of unsolved issues regarding cellular events underlying the adaptation of insulin secretion to insulin resistance, together with the observation that insulin secretion induced by the gastrointestinal hormone and neuropeptide cholecystokinin (CCK) is not solely explained by phospholipase C-protein kinase C (PLC-PKC) pathway activation, this study aimed at delineate mechanisms responsible for the hyperinsulinemia in insulin resistance, with particular attention paid to the action of glucose vs. non-glucose secretagogues, such as CCK. 4. 24. The choreography of protein vibrations : Improved methods of observing and simulating the infrared absorption of proteins

    Author : Eeva-Liisa Karjalainen; Andreas Barth; Astrid Gräslund; Timothy A. Keiderling; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Infrared spectroscopy; FTIR; protein; atpase; amyloid; caged compound; amide I; transition dipole coupling; exciton theory; simulation; Molecular biophysics; Molekylär biofysik; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis has striven toward improving the capability to study proteins using infrared (IR) spectroscopy. This includes development of new and improved experimental and theoretical methods to selectively observe and simulate protein vibrations. READ MORE

  5. 25. Investigation on Pre- and Postsynaptic Ca2+ Signaling in Neuronal Model Systems

    Author : Jelena Krjukova; Åkerman Karl; Kukkonen Jyrki; Rydqvist Bo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; calcium; neurotransmitter release; nicotine; depolarization; G-protein coupled receptor; muscarinic; phospholipase C; m-3M3FBS; Fysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : Communication between neuronal and non-neuronal is called volume transmission when the released neurotransmitter (NT) acts via diffusion and affects several target cells. Both the neurosecretory and postsynaptic cell responses are linked to [Ca2+]i elevations. READ MORE
