  1. 1. Comparative Assessment of Fuel-Based Systems for Space Heating

    Author : Åsa Karlsson; Miljö- och energisystem; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energiforskning; Energy research; cogeneration; district heating; electric heating; external cost; carbon dioxide mitigation; detached houses; fossil fuels; Energy systems; bioenergy;

    Abstract : Replacing fossil fuels by biofuels and increasing energy efficiency are often considered to be options for reducing the net emission of greenhouse gases. This thesis presents the results of analyses of energy efficiency, emission and cost of whole energy system chains, from the natural resource to the end user when heating detached houses in a Swedish context. 2. 2. Team-based home rehabilitation after hip fracture in older adults : effects, experiences and impact of dementia

    Author : Åsa Karlsson; Nina Lindelöf; Birgitta Olofsson; Michael Stenvall; Yngve Gustafson; Peter Nordström; Anna Cristina Åberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hip fracture; geriatrics; dementia; home rehabilitation; interdisciplinary rehabilitation; walking ability; activities of daily living; recovery; length of stay; accidential falls; qualitative; Geriatrics; geriatrik; Orthopaedics; ortopedi;

    Abstract : BACKGROUND: For an older adult a hip fracture may be a traumatic and life-changing event and has shown to be associated with reduced health-related quality of life, disability and increased mortality. Previous rehabilitation studies have often excluded older adults with cognitive impairment and those living in residential care facilities, groups with an additional risk of poor outcome. READ MORE

  3. 3. Protected Lignin Biorefining: Fundamental Insights on Lignin Reactivity

    Author : Maria Karlsson; Martin Lawoko; Åsa Emmer; Olena Sevastyanova; John Ralph; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sustainability; lignin; biorefinery; cyclic organosolv extraction; preserved structure; NMR; MALDI-TOF MS; Hållbarhet; lignin; bioraffinaderi; cyklisk organosolv extraktion; bevarad struktur; NMR; MALDI-TOF MS; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : The potential to utilize lignin, which constitutes as much as 15-30% of the biomass, needs further evaluation. In the transition towards a bioeconomy, lignin has the potential to replace fossil-based phenols. Attempts to valorize the available technical lignins are ongoing; however, that lignin suffers from molecular heterogeneity. READ MORE

    Abstract : The aim of the study was to investigate into and characterise students’ experiences of learning from their having taken part in an international upper secondary exchange in an intercultural context. Focusing on educational and intercultural dimensions, the thesis contributes knowledge of the implications of increasing internationalization and student mobility in education. READ MORE

  5. 5. Isocyanates and Amines – Sampling and Analytical Procedures

    Author : Åsa Marand; Gunnar Skarping; Marianne Dalene; Daniel Karlsson; Roy Rando; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Isocyanates; Amines; Polyurethane; Air sampling; Industrial hygiene; Mass spectrometry; Liquid chromatography; Chemiluminescence; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis covers sampling and analytical procedures for isocyanates (R-NCO) and amines (R-NH2), two kinds of chemicals frequently used in association with the polymeric material polyurethane (PUR). Exposure to isocyanates may result in respiratory disorders and dermal sensitisation, and they are one of the main causes of occupational asthma. READ MORE
