2. Surface Characterisation Using ToF-SIMS, AES and XPS of Silane Films and Organic Coatings Deposited on Metal Substrates
Abstract : This work focuses on the surface and interfacial characterisation of silane films of a non-organofunctional silane, 1,2-bis(triethoxysilyl)ethane (BTSE), and an organofunctional silane, γ-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (γ-MPS), deposited on Al, Zn and Al-43.4Zn-1.6Si (AlZn) alloy coated steel. 3. Wear in sheet metal forming
Abstract : The general trend in the car body manufacturing industry is towards low-series production and reduction of press lubricants and car weight. The limited use of press lubricants, in combination with the introduction of high and ultra-high strength sheet materials, continuously increases the demands of the forming tools. READ MORE

4. Contact fatigue and crack propagation studies of sintered PM steel
Abstract : Gears made of PM steel are of interest for the automotive industry because from the press/sinter route, complex geometries can be produced to near net shape with only a few processing steps while keeping the material and energy usage at a minimum. However, the PM steels of today have significant performance limitations caused by the inherent porosity which impairs the mechanical properties by acting as stress raisers in the material. READ MORE

5. New insights into lubricated tribological contacts
Abstract : The emissions of carbon dioxide, CO2, must rapidly be reduced to avoid severe climate change. Tribology-related solutions can be an important part in reducing these emissions. The aim of this thesis is to improve the fundamental knowledge in two tribology-related fields, both concerning lubrication, to enable such solutions in the future. READ MORE
