16. The role of CD30 in atopic allergy
Abstract : The 120 kDa CD30 molecule belongs to the tumour necrosis factor (TNF) receptor superfamily and is expressed by activated lymphoid cells. Small populations of CD30+ cells have been detected in the peripheral lymphoid organs, as well as in the thymus. A subset of CD45RO+, so-called memory T cells, also express CD30 after various kind of stimuli. READ MORE

17. Time-Resolved X-ray Diffraction Studies of Laser-Induced Dynamics in Solids
Abstract : X-ray diffraction is an invaluable tool in the field of structural dynamics. In the work described in this thesis, time-resolved X-ray diffraction experiments were carried out to investigate ultrafast lattice dynamics. READ MORE

18. Biological determinants of HIV infection : studies of viral evolution during disease progression in children and adults
Abstract : Coreceptor usage of primary HIV-1 isolates was analysed in relation to their biological phenotype and the severity of HIV-1 infection in the patient. The indicator cell lines, U87 glioma cells engineered to express CD4 and one of the chemokine receptors CCR1, CCR2b, CCR3, CCR5 or CXCR4, were infected with a panel of well-characterized primary HIV-1 isolates. 19. Above Ground Durability of Swedish Softwood
Abstract : This thesis describes aspects of durability of Swedish softwood in above ground applications. The thesis consists of a summary of nine papers, which all aim to explain the existing variation in above ground microbial durability and moisture sensitivity of Norway spruce (Picea abies) and Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris). 20. Infection early in life and risk of non-affective psychosis
Abstract : In light of the increasing, but insufficient, evidence that various infections and immunological processes during brain development are associated with psychotic disorder, the aim of this thesis was to investigate infection during foetal life and childhood on the risk of developing non-affective psychosis later in life. We conducted two population-based birth cohort studies using linkages to several nationwide registers as well as two studies on a subset of cases and controls in which biological samples were examined.
