  2. 2. Island biogeography and population divergence in the Skyros wall lizard

    Author : Anna Runemark; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Podarcis gaigeae; inbreeding; predation release; polymorphism; island gigantism; the island rule; genetic drift; sexual selection; natural selection; island biology; Evolution;

    Abstract : Islands are cradles for new biodiversity and provide natural laboratories for the study of population divergence. In my thesis, I investigated the role of different evolutionary processes in the population divergence in the Skyros wall lizard (Podarcis gaigeae), a species where islet populations have strongly diverged morphologies. 3. 3. Development of central catecholaminergic neuronal systems in the lizard Anolis sagrei

    Author : Agneta Rehn; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; double labelling; immunohistochemistry; interplexiform cells; amacrine cells; catecholamines; development; retina; Reptiles; brain; Zoology; Zoologi;

    Abstract : Catecholamines, comprising the neurotransmitters dopamine (DA), noradrenaline (NA) and adrenaline (A) are synthesized by specific enzymes (tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), dopamine ß-hydroxylase (DBH), phenylethanolamine-N-methyltransferase (PNMT)) in the central nervous system. The development and distribution of different catecholaminergic systems have been described in both the brain and retina of the lizard Anolis sagrei. READ MORE

  4. 4. Diversity and Limits of Colour Vision in Terrestrial Vertebrates

    Author : Lina Roth; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Reptiles; Dim light vision; Colour vision; Camera-type eyes; Vertebrates; Mammals; Geckos; Horses;

    Abstract : Most terrestrial vertebrates have colour vision, some perceive a less colourful world and others actually discriminate a wider colour spectrum than humans do. Still, we can all make use of the valuable colour information, which is more rigid than just brightness. READ MORE

  5. 5. Early Campanian mosasaurs (Reptilia; Mosasauridae) from the Kristianstad Basin, southern Sweden

    Author : Johan Lindgren; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sedimentologi; Sedimentology; vertebrae; Tylosaurus; teeth; Sweden; Mosasauridae; Kristianstad; Halisaurus; Clidastes; Hainosaurus;

    Abstract : Marine strata of latest early Campanian age (sensu germanico) in the Kristianstad Basin, Skåne (Scania), southern Sweden, have yielded a diverse mosasaur fauna comprising six to eight taxa, including Tylosaurus ivoensis, Clidastes propython, Hainosaurus minor n. sp., Halisaurus sternbergii, Platecarpus cf. somenensis, Platecarpus? sp.
