  1. 1. General stress proteins: Novel function and signals for induction of stationary phase genes in E.coli

    Author : Örjan Persson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; general stress response; universal stress protein; sigma S; DNA damage; fructose-6-phosphate; ruvC;

    Abstract : Survival during conditions when nutrients become scarce requires adaptation and expression of genes for maintenance in order for the cell to survive. Among the numerous proteins involved in adaptation and regulation under these conditions, the stationary phase sigma factor, σS, and the Universal stress proteins contribute to survival and bestow the cell with general stress protective functions during growth arrest.     Keywords : SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; Education; Pedagogik; Mathematics Education; Matematik och lärande;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of an overview of the subject, where in particular five papers are put into a frame. The research conducted for the thesis concerns the views of preservice teachers on the concept of function. READ MORE

  3. 3. Volume imaging of the abdomen : three-dimensional visualisation of tubular structures in the body with CT and MRI

    Author : Anders Persson; Örjan Smedby; Håkan Ahlström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The overwhelming amount of image-based information in modem medicine makes it crucial to develop methods to handle and analyze images and make them comprehensible for users. The aim of this thesis was to study the radiological practice of three-dimensional (3D) visualization of tubular structures in the body with CT and MRI. READ MORE

  4. 4. Long Term Studies of Insect Abundances in Temporary Wetlands in Relation to Hydrology, Predation and Bti

    Author : Thomas Persson Vinnersten; Jan O Lundström; Örjan Östman; William Walton; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; floodwater mosquitoes; mosquito control; predation; aquatic insects;

    Abstract : Long-term insect abundances have been studied to investigate factors structuring the insect communities of the temporary wetlands around the River Dalälven floodplain. In the wet meadows and swamps in the River Dalälven floodplains recurrent floods are the ultimate prerequisite for high production of floodwater mosquitoes. READ MORE

  5. 5. On the use of computed tomography in cardiac imaging
