  1. 1. Bioprocess development for biochemical conversion of lignocellulose

    Author : Ruifei Wang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lignocellulose; strain engineering; stress tolerance; kinetic modelling; high gravity; scale-up; biofuels; SSCF; process development; Saccharomyces cerevisiae;

    Abstract : Due to its low environmental impact and high maturity of the fuel ethanol market, lignocellulosic ethanol is a promising option for reducing the carbon footprint in the transport sector. The characteristics of lignocellulosic feedstocks, such as varied sugar composition, low sugar density, low solubility, recalcitrance to enzymatic degradation, and inhibitors formed during thermochemical pretreatment, have so far limited the production process, and costs for conversion of lignocellulosic materials to ethanol are still high. 2. 2. Cellulose Biosynthesis in Oomycetes

    Author : Johanna Fugelstad; Vincent Bulone; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cellulose biosynthesis; cellulose synthase genes; Oomycetes; Phytophthora infestans; Saprolegnia monoica.; Other bioengineering; Övrig bioteknik;

    Abstract : Oomycetes have long been considered as a separate class within the kingdom Fungi, but they are in fact closer to brown algae. They are currently classified in the Stramenopile eukaryotic kingdom, which includes heterokont algae and water molds. READ MORE

  3. 3. Accumulation, Boundaries, Capabilities and Dynamics - Explaining Firm Growth

    Author : Johan Brink; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to further develop the theoretical understanding of the growth of knowledge intensive business organizations. The overall aim is to understand the growth challenges of emerging firms in the knowledge-based economy. In particular this thesis addresses several aspects of the growth of small bioscience based firms. READ MORE

  4. 4. Fighting flameless fires : Initiating and extinguishing self-sustainedsmoldering fires in wood pellets

    Author : Ragni Fjellgaard Mikalsen; Vidar Frette; Bjarne C. Hagen; Ulrich Krause; Anne Steen-Hansen; Ulrich Krause; Nieves Fernandez-Anez; RISE; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fuel storage safety; Industrial fire; Biofuels; Smoldering; Extinguishment; Fire suppression; Fire growth; Fire spread; Heat transfer; Nonlinear dynamics; Complex systems; Combustion; Biomass energy; Synchronization; Oscillations; EMRIS;

    Abstract : Smoldering fires represent domestic, environmental and industrial hazards. This flameless form of combustion is more easily initiated than flaming, and is also more persistent and difficult to extinguish. The growing demand for non-fossil fuels has increased the use of solid biofuels such as biomass. READ MORE

  5. 5. Discovery and applications of family AA9 lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases

    Author : Monika Tõlgo; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases; cellulose; xylan; spruce; carbohydrate active enzymes; LPMO; lignocellulolytic enzyme cocktails; lignocellulose; polysaccharides; AA9; cellulose nanocrystals; thermophilic fungi;

    Abstract : Auxililary activity family 9 lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (abbreviated as AA9s or LPMO9s) are fungal mono-copper enzymes capable of oxidatively cleaving various plant cell wall oligo- and/or polysaccharides. LPMO9s are key components of lignocellulolytic enzyme cocktails used in today’s biorefineries to break down biomass into fermentable sugars. READ MORE
