    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Controlled release; geopolymer; sol-gel; opioid; oral administration; oral dosage form; implant; titanium; hydroxyapatite; infection; strontium carbonate; strontium; Functional materials; Funktionella material; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Material physics with surface physics; Materialfysik med ytfysik; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot nanoteknologi och funktionella material; Engineering Science with specialization in Nanotechnology and Functional Materials;

    Abstract : Ceramics are distinguished from metals and polymers by their inorganic nature and lack of metallic properties. They can be highly crystalline to amorphous, and their physical and chemical properties can vary widely. READ MORE

  2. 2. Slag inclusion formation during solidification of steel alloys and in cast iron

    Author : Sofia Adolfi; Hasse Fredriksson; Karin Hansson; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; solidification; segregation; precipitation; inclusions; inoculation; EMPA; Other materials science; Övrig teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the formation of segregation and inclusions during solidification of steel and cast iron. A better understanding of the formation mechanism should result in decreasing fraction of defects during solidification of ingot and strand material. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies of transport in oxides on Zr-based materials

    Author : Clara Anghel; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Zirconium; hydrogen; oxygen diffusion; second-phase particle; oxidation; dissociation; hydration; carbon monoxide; adsorption; porosity; Other materials science; Övrig teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Zr-based materials have found their main application in the nuclear field having high corrosion resistance and low neutron absorption cross-section. The oxide layer that is formed on the surface of these alloys is meant to be the barrier between the metal and the corrosive environment. READ MORE

  4. 4. Point defect interactions and structural stability of compounds

    Author : Vitaly Baykov; Börje Johansson; Peter Mohn; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; first principles; ab initio; density functional theory; point defects interactions; diluted magnetic semiconductors; structural stability; zirconium alloys; Other materials science; Övrig teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Theoretical studies of point defect interactions and structural stability of compounds have been performed using density functional theory. The defect-related properties, such as activation energy of diffusion, electronic and magnetic structure of selected materials have been studied. READ MORE

  5. 5. Evolution of artificial defects during shape rolling

    Author : Mirjana Filipovic; Stefan Jonsson; Per-Olov Perä; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; shape rolling; wire rod rolling; artificial defects; defect evolution; surface cracks; porosity; FEM; high speed steel; stainless steel; Other materials science; Övrig teknisk materialvetenskap; Initiering och utveckling av defekter under spårvalsning;

    Abstract : Very often defects are present in rolled products. For wire rods, defects are very deleterious since the wire rods are generally used directly in various applications. For this reason, the market nowadays requires wire rods to be completely defect-free. Any wire with defects must be rejected as scrap which is very costly for the production mill. READ MORE
