  1. 1. Road surface characterization using near infrared spectroscopy

    Author : Johan Casselgren; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering mechanics - Other engineering mechanics; Spektroskopi; Väglagsklassificering; Friktion; Väglagskarakterisering; Teknisk mekanik - Övrig teknisk mekanik; Experimental Mechanics; Experimentell mekanik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a technology and method for classifying and characterizing different road conditions such as dry asphalt and asphalt covered with water, ice and snow. The method uses light sources of different wavelengths to illuminate the road surface and a detector to measure the reflected light from the road surfaces, dependent on how the surface have absorbed, scattered and polarized the light it is possible to classify the road condition. Abstract : Advancements in simulation tools and computer power have made it possible to incorporate simulation-based structural optimization in the automotive product development process. However, deterministic optimization without considering uncertainties such as variations in material properties, geometry or loading conditions might result in unreliable optimum designs. READ MORE

  3. 3. Investigations of Flow Patterns in Ventilated Rooms Using Particle Image Velocimetry : Applications in a Scaled Room with Rapidly Varying Inflow and over a Wall-Mounted Radiator

    Abstract : This thesis introduces and describes a new experimental setup for examining the effects of pulsating inflow to a ventilated enclosure. The study aimed to test the hypothesis that a pulsating inflow has potential to improve ventilation quality by reducing the stagnation zones through enhanced mixing. READ MORE

  4. 4. Micromechanical modeling of cleavage fracture in polycrystalline materials

    Author : Mateusz Stec; Jonas Faleskog; Andre Pineau; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cleavage fracture; probabilistic modeling; brittle to ductile transition; cohesive zone; visco-plastic material; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik; Other technology; Övriga teknikvetenskaper;

    Abstract : Cleavage fracture in ferritic steels can be defined as a sequence of few critical steps. At first nucleation of a microcrack takes place, often in a hard inclusion. This microcrack then propagates into the surrounding matrix material. The last obstacle before failure is the encounter of grain boundaries. READ MORE
