  1. 11. Simulation of mechanical joining for automotive applications

    Author : Johannes Gårdstam; Anders Eriksson; Kjell Simonsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Other materials science; Övrig teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Regarding the use of material, modern lightweight car bodies are becoming more and more complex than previous constructions. The materials nowadays are used for a more specific field of application and more high strength steels are used and also other materials like aluminium, stainless steel, reinforced polymers are used more frequent.     Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Particle Image Velocimetry PIV ; experimental study; structured light 3D scanning system; ventilation; varying flow rate; room model; wall-mounted radiator; air; water; flow; Particle Image Velocimetry PIV ; experimentell studie; scanningsystem för strukturerat 3D-ljus; ventilation; varierande tilluftsflöde; rumsmodell; väggmonterad radiator; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis introduces and describes a new experimental setup for examining the effects of pulsating inflow to a ventilated enclosure. The study aimed to test the hypothesis that a pulsating inflow has potential to improve ventilation quality by reducing the stagnation zones through enhanced mixing. READ MORE

  3. 13. Micromechanical modeling of cleavage fracture in polycrystalline materials

    Author : Mateusz Stec; Jonas Faleskog; Andre Pineau; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cleavage fracture; probabilistic modeling; brittle to ductile transition; cohesive zone; visco-plastic material; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik; Other technology; Övriga teknikvetenskaper;

    Abstract : Cleavage fracture in ferritic steels can be defined as a sequence of few critical steps. At first nucleation of a microcrack takes place, often in a hard inclusion. This microcrack then propagates into the surrounding matrix material. The last obstacle before failure is the encounter of grain boundaries. READ MORE

  4. 14. Characterisation of airborne particles from rail traffic

    Author : Saeed Abbasi; Ulf Sellgren; Ulf Olofsson; Mats Gustafsson; KTH; []

    Abstract : Since the investigation of wear particles in rail transport started in late-1910s, the high mass concentration of these particles has raised worries among researchers concerned with air quality. However, effective action has yet to be taken because of lack of relevant knowledge. READ MORE

  5. 15. Development and results of the Swedish road deflection tester

    Author : Peter Andrén; Anders Eriksson; Anders Lenngren; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Other engineering mechanics; Övrig teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : A project to construct a high-speed road deflection tester was initiated in the 1991. A mid-sized truck was used as a carrier for the first prototype. The results were promising and it was decided to build a full-size truck system. The new vehicle, based on a Scania R143 ML, was completed in 1997. READ MORE
