  1. 1. Strategies to explore the membrane proteome of a cell

    Author : Gianluca Maddalo; Leopold L. Ilag; Peter James; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Membrane proteins; Proteomics; Escherichia coli; Enterococcus faecalis; Synechocystis; Mass Spectrometry; BN SDS-PAGE; FT-ICR-MS; Myelin P2 protein; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The cell envelope plays key roles in numerous processes such as maintaining cellular integrity, communication with other cells, signal transduction, maintenance of cellular homeostasis, and regulation of the traffic of molecules between the cell and the extracellular milieu. Essential membrane components in many of these processes are proteins. READ MORE

  2. 2. Rhodothermus marinus: a cell factory : Exploring products and cultivation technology

    Author : Emanuel Ron; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Rhodothermus marinus; Extremophiles; Carotenoids; Exopolysaccharides;

    Abstract : The unsustainable human impact on ecology and ensuing climate change necessitates the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The largest contributing industrial sector is the chemical industry, due to its petrochemical dependency. READ MORE

  3. 3. Investigating a cell replacement therapy in the inner ear

    Author : Zhengqing Hu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Adult neural stem cell; Cell therapy; Differentiation; Dorsal root ganglion; Embryonic stem cell; Gene transfer; Hearing loss; Nerve growth factor; Neurogenin; Organ of Corti; Spiral ganglion; Transplantation;

    Abstract : The mammalian auditory system is sensitive to genetic disorders, aging and injuries caused by overstimulation, ototoxic drugs and viral infections. Since the sensory epithelium (the organ of Corti) and the spiral ganglion neurons (SGNs) in adult mammalian do not regenerate spontaneously when they are damaged, a cell substitution strategy was proposed to compensate the function of the degenerated SGNs. 4. 4. Regeneration of the auditory nerve : a cell transplantation study

    Author : Björn Palmgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Since in mammals, the hair cells or the spiral ganglion neurons (SGNs) in the inner ear do not regenerate, damage to these cells is an irreversible process. Presently the only aid for patients with severe to profound hearing impairment due to damaged hair cells is a cochlear implant (CI). READ MORE

  5. 5. Biobased Adipic Acid - Challenges in Establishing a Cell Factory

    Author : Emma Skoog; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; 2-hexenedioic acid; enzyme engineering; 6-aminohex-2-enoic acid; S. cerevisiae; adipic acid pathway via lysine; cell factory; C. viswanathii; lignocellulose; biorefinery; tolerance; in silico docking; adipic acid;

    Abstract : Growing concern regarding climate change calls for sustainable solutions to significantly reduce our dependency on non-renewable fossil-based raw materials. One potential solution is the development of biorefineries where biobased, renewable raw materials are converted into valuable products via enzymatic, chemical or microbial conversion. READ MORE
