11. Fabrication and Characterisations of New Ultra-thin Silicon Detectors as Pre-Cell Hit Detectors for a Cell Irradiation Facility at LIBAF
Abstract : For the development of single–ion irradiation system for living cells at the Lund Ion Beam Analysis facility (LIBAF) newly developed pre-cell (PC) detectors have been investigated. Central to the thesis is the fabrication and initial characterization of more than 100 ultra-thin silicon detectors having different thicknesses down to 5 μm with active areas ranging from 0. 12. Serum proteins in type 1 diabetes
Abstract : We have previously shown that there are patients with type 1 diabetes T1D whose sera interfere with cytoplasmic free Ca2+-concentration ([Ca2+]i), resulting in -cell apoptosis. In this study the frequency of sera, that induces this effect, was found to be around 35% in T1D patients, and 25% in first degree relatives (FDR) of T1D patients. READ MORE

13. A Solution Exchange Platform for Exposure of Cells to Chemical Waves
Abstract : This thesis presents the development, characterization and suggested applications of a platform for controlling the chemical environment around a cell or a cell constituent. The platform is unique in its capability to combine rapid solution switching with precise timing and access to a manifold of solution environments. READ MORE

14. Structural and synthetic studies on peptide analogues to the cell adhesive sequence RGD (Arg-Gly-Asp)
Abstract : Fibronectin is a cell adhesive protein with many different biological functions. The cell adhesive properties have been ascribed on a small polypeptide sequence RGD (Arginine-Glycine-Aspartic acid) also found in other cell adhesive proteins. READ MORE

15. Studies of molecular mechanisms of telomere maintenance in Naumovozyma castellii
Abstract : Telomeres are special DNA-protein structures that protect ends of chromosomes from being recognized as double-strand breaks. Telomeres consist of tandemly repeated units of TG-rich DNA and associate with telomere-specific proteins. READ MORE
