  1. 1. Speeding up the Atmosphere : Experimental oxidation studies of ambient and laboratory aerosols using a flow reactor

    Author : Erik Ahlberg; MERGE: ModElling the Regional and Global Earth system; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Secondary organic aerosols; oxidation flow reactor; volatile organic compounds; climate;

    Abstract : Apart from gases, the air we breath consist of tiny, so called, aerosol particles. A cubic metre of air in a relatively clean environment can consist of several billion aerosol particles. The impact of these particles on human health and on climate is significant. READ MORE

  2. 2. Improving Parton Showers with Fixed Order Matrix Elements

    Author : Stefan Prestel; Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Matrix Element Merging; Parton Shower; QCD; Phenomenology; Fysicumarkivet A:2013:Prestel;

    Abstract : This thesis considers numerical simulations of high energy particle collisions, and improvements in the description of multiple collimated jets of hadrons in collision events in particular. In the event simulation software called event generators, the structure of multi-jet events is determined through an interplay of the input calculation, parton showers and phenomenological hadronisation models. 3. 3. Geometric Models of Similarity

    Author : Mikael Johannesson; Kognitionsvetenskap; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; symmetry; similarity; separable dimensions; prominence; multidimensional scaling; Minkowski metric; machine learning; integral dimensions; familiarity; geometric models; distance metric; asymmetry; conceptual spaces; Computer science; numerical analysis; systems; control; Datalogi; numerisk analys; system; kontroll; Geometry; algebraic topology; Geometri; algebraisk topologi;

    Abstract : This dissertation examines and discusses some phenomena related to the geometric representation of similarity. It takes its inspiration from the existing body of empirical research within the fields of perceptual and cognitive psychology, but also connects to certain areas of machine learning. READ MORE

  4. 4. Exploring the Grey Zone between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes

    Author : Ekaterine Bakhtadze; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : T1D is most common in children and young adults and is characterized by autoimmune destruction of insulin producing pancreatic beta cells, presence of certain risk genotypes such as HLA-DQB1, INS VNTR, PTPN22 and need of insulin for survival. In adults the same situation is often referred to as Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA), with age at onset after 35 years and non-insulin requiring at least for 6 month after diagnosis.
