1. Chromatin structure and histone modifications in gene regulation
Abstract : In the living cell, DNA is densely packed into a chromatin structure constituting nucleosomal arrays. One nucleosome core particle includes a disc shaped protein octamer consisting of pairs of histones H2A, H2B, H3 and H4. 146 bp of DNA is wrapped in almost two turns around this protein complex. 2. A Framework for optimised welding of fatigue loaded structures : Applied to gas metal arc welding of fillet welds
Abstract : Welding is a key process for heavy steel structures, but it is also a weak link in the structure since fatigue fractures in welds are a common cause of failure. This thesis proposes several changes in order to improve the fatigue properties in acost effective way, enabling reduced weight and reduced cost of welded structures. READ MORE

3. Bisphosphonates for orthopedic applications. Studies in rat models
Abstract : Prosthetic loosening, bone graft resorption and osteonecrosis are examples of problems in orthopedic surgery caused by or augmented by bone resorption. Bone resorption is caused by osteoclasts. Osteoclasts can be inactivated with biphosphonates, a drug in clinical use against osteoporosis and osteolytic tumors. READ MORE

4. Energy Policy Instruments Perspectives on their Choice, Combination and Evaluation
Abstract : Abstract The thesis aims at providing a better understanding of public policy instruments used in policy-making within the energy sector, particularly regarding their role in the change towards an increased use of renewable energy sources for generation of electricity. The research was guided by an underlying assumption that a markedly higher proportion of the energy generated from renewable sources can be considerably enhanced by use of policy instruments that support the development and the market creation of new, renewable energy technologies. 5. Short-term Underground Mine Scheduling : Constraint Programming in an Industrial Application
Abstract : The operational performance of an underground mine depends critically on how the production is scheduled. Increasingly advanced methods are used to create optimized long-term plans, and simultaneously the actual excavation is getting more and more automated. READ MORE
