  1. 1. Risk-based ship security analysis : a decision-support approach

    Author : Hans Liwång; Jonas W. Ringsberg; Martin Norsell; Rolf Skjong; Försvarshögskolan; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; naval ship; piracy; risk-based; risk control options; ship security analysis; survivability; uncertainty analysis; militära fartyg; sjöröveri; riskanalys; sjöfartsskydd; överlevnadsförmåga; Försvarssystem; Military Technology;

    Abstract : The protection of shipping does not come without hazards and threats for military forces, individual civilian ship operators and crews. With particular focus on security threats, this thesis is about how to prepare for such operations without introducing unnecessary risks, i.e., supporting conscious risk-taking related to ship security. 2. 2. Water and Protein Dynamics in Biological Systems Studied by Magnetic Relaxation Dispersion

    Author : Erik Persson Sunde; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : protein dynamics; ubiquitin; BPTI; Escherichia coli; Haloarcula marismortui; nuclear magnetic resonance; protein hydration; magnetic relaxation dispersion; water dynamics; cell water;

    Abstract : The results presented in this thesis demonstrate that the magnetic relaxation dispersion (MRD) technique can provide information of relevance to protein biophysics, magnetic resonance imaging and cell biology. By immobilizing proteins with covalent cross-links, intermittent protein dynamics on the previously inaccessible ns-µs time scale could be probed with MRD via the exchange of water molecules between internal cavities and the surrounding bulk solvent phase. 3. 3. Advancement of sensor technology for monitoring and control of upstream bioprocesses

    Author : Judit Randek; Carl-Fredrik Mandenius; Gerald Striedner; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : In bioprocesses, the upstream process part with cultivation and harvesting steps has decisive influence on the final process outcome, including the quality of the product, the productivity and the yield. To ensure stable product quality of biopharmaceuticals, the U.S. READ MORE

  4. 4. Aspects of nutrition in geriatric patients - Especially dietary assessment, intake and requirements

    Author : Mats Persson Lintrup; Geriatrik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Validity.; Total energy expenditure; Reproducibility; Malnutrition; Geriatric patients; Fluid intake; Energy requirements; Doubly labelled water; Diet records; Aged; Dietary intake; Nutrition; Näringslära; Social medicine; Socialmedicin; samhällsmedicin;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to develop and test the feasibility of a dietary record routine, where nursing staff assess the patient’s food and fluid intake based on standardised portion sizes and household measurements. The energy intake (EI) was studied with a dietary record in 61 geriatric patients. READ MORE

  5. 5. Phenotypic plasticity and local adaptation in tadpoles

    Author : Björn Lardner; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; salinity tolerance; trade-off; life-history; tail depth; inducible defence; antipredator strategies; tadpoles; anurans; amphibians; Phenotypic plasticity; local adaptation; competitive ability; allozymes.; Animal ecology; Djurekologi;

    Abstract : Amphibian larvae are plastic in many traits. Can plasticity buffer population divergence, so that local adaptation is more common in non-plastic traits? I argue that this may be the case for adaptive plastic responses. READ MORE
