  1. 1. Urban, pluvial flooding : Blue-green infrastructure as a strategy for resilience

    Author : Johanna Sörensen; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; urbanhydrologi; pluviala översvämningar; resiliens; blå-grön infrastruktur; socio-teknisk förändring; Urban hydrology; Pluvial flooding; Resilience; Blue-green infrastructure; socio-technical transition;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates urban, pluvial flooding and if blue-green infrastructure, for handling of stormwater in urban green spaces, can be used as a strategy for resilient flood risk management. Spatial analyses of flood claims from insurance companies and the water utility company of Malmö are used to better understand the mechanisms and characteristics of pluvial flooding and how blue-green infrastructure impacts flood risk. 2. 2. Supervised and Unsupervised Deep Learning Models for Flood Detection

    Author : Ritu Yadav; Yifang Ban; Andrea Nascetti; Nicolas Audebert; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Floods; Remote Sensing; Sentinel-1 SAR; Segmentation; Change Detection; DEM; Data Fusion; Time Series; Deep Learning; Unsupervised Learning; Contrastive Learning; Self-Attention; Convolutional LSTM; Variational AutoEncoder VAE ; Geoinformatik; Geoinformatics;

    Abstract : Human civilization has an increasingly powerful influence on the earthsystem. Affected by climate change and land-use change, floods are occurringacross the globe and are expected to increase in the coming years. Currentsituations urge more focus on efficient monitoring of floods and detecting impactedareas. READ MORE

  3. 3. Environmental history in southern Mozambique : Reconstruction of flooding events, hydroclimate and sea-level dynamics since mid-Holocene

    Author : Sandra Raúl Sitoe; Jan Risberg; Elin Norström; Lars-Ove Westerberg; John Compton; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Southern Africa; Limpopo River floodplain; flooding event; sea-level change; climate change; diatoms; phytoliths; mineral magnetics; grain-size; radiocarbon dating; kvartärgeologi; Quaternary Geology;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis has been to reconstruct paleoenvironment, paleohydrology and paleoclimate in coastal southern Mozambique, with emphasis on tracing past flooding events on the lower Limpopo River floodplain. In order to extend flood chronologies beyond periods covered by instrumental data, sediments from lakes on the floodplain were studied (Lake Lungué, Coassane Oxbow, Lake Magandane and Lake Soane). 4. 4. Climate change and urban drainage : future precipitation and hydraulic impact

    Author : Mats Olofsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering;

    Abstract : Increasing global mean temperature influences the hydrologic cycle. In the 21st century, hydrologic change featuring more heavy precipitation events is very likely according to the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC. This change will have a great impact on urban environments and infrastructures. READ MORE

  5. 5. Flood Prediction in data-scarce basins : Maximising the value of limited hydro-meteorological data

    Abstract : Floods pose a threat to society that can cause large socio-economic damages and loss of life in many parts of the world. Flood-forecasting models are required to provide simulations at temporal resolutions higher than a day in basins with concentration times smaller than 24 h. READ MORE
