  1. 1. New Methodologies in Organic Chemistry: Applications to the Synthesis of α-Amino Acids and Natural Products

    Author : Sebastian Hirner; Peter Somfai; Varinder Aggarwal; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic synthesis; 2-Vinylaziridines; 3-Pyrrolines; Ringexpansion; Rearrangement; Anisomycin; Total synthesis; α-Amino acids; Arylglycines; Weinreb amides; α-Arylation; Grignard reagents; Umpolung; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the development and application of new synthetic methodology in organic chemistry. The first part describes the development of a new protocol for the synthesis of 3-pyrrolines by means of a microwave-assisted ring-expansion reaction of 2-vinylaziridines. READ MORE

  2. 2. Development of organocatalytic asymmetric transformations

    Author : Ismail Ibrahem; Armando Cordova; Stephen Hanessian; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Asymmetric Catalysis; α-amino acids; Aldehydes; Ketones; α-Aminomethylation; Aziridination; Hydrophosphination; Diarylprolinol; Proline derivatives; Organic synthesis; Organisk syntes; Organic Chemistry; organisk kemi;

    Abstract : The ability of amino acids and amino acid derivatives to mediate various organocatalytic asymmetric transformations has been investigated and applied in the development of various reactions. This work describes the development of a direct catalytic asymmetric α-aminomethylation of ketones and aldehydes, a catalytic asymmetric aziridination, hydrophosphination and amination of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes. 3. 3. Primary reactions in crystalline salts of tartaric acids, α-amino acids and monochloroacetic acid studied by pulse radiolysis and ESR spectroscopy

    Author : Per-Olof Samskog; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Primary reactions in irradiated single crystals of salts of tartaric acids, a-amino acids and monochloroacetic acid have been studied by pulse radiolysis and ESR spectroscopy. The primary products are formed by the loss or capture of an electron and are referred to as oxidation and reduction products. READ MORE

  4. 4. Synthesis and structure activity relationships of competitive NMDA antagonists with analgesic activity

    Author : Britt-Marie Swahn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI; Organic Pharmaceutical Chemistry; organisk farmaceutisk kemi;

    Abstract : The compounds cis-3-(1-oxo-2-phosphonoethyl)-2-piperidinecarboxylic acid 1 and cis-3-(1-hydroxy-2-phosphonoethyl)-2-piperidinecarboxylic acid 2 were synthesized and found to be potent N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) antagonists. NMR analysis showed that 1 prefers a 2eq,3ax chair conformation probably due to a conformer-stabilizing internal hydrogen bond. READ MORE

  5. 5. Photoactive EDA complexes in visible light driven aerobic oxidations

    Author : August Runemark; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; visible light; EDA complex; aerobic oxidation; photochemical; organic synthesis;

    Abstract : Organic synthesis driven by photochemical activation has been proven very promising in a range of scenarios within academia and industry. The emergence of photoredox catalysis has fueled an ever-growing interest in the use of visible light as a convenient energy source for a variety of radical reactions otherwise difficult to achieve.
