  1. 1. Methodological aspects of quantitative cardiac molecular imaging

    Author : Tanja Kero; Mark Lubberink; Håkan Ahlström; Elin Trägårdh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : PET; cardiac amyloidosis; 11C-PIB; retention index; standardized uptake value; PET-MR; MRI; myocardial blood flow; 15O-water; quantification; quantitative modeling;

    Abstract : The objective of this research was to facilitate the use of quantitative cardiac molecular imaging by developing and validating methods and applications. More specifically:we determined the optimal tracer kinetic model for analysis of 11C-PIB and evaluated the performance of two simpler measures, retention index (RI) and standardized uptake value (SUV), in the quantification of cardiac 11C-PIB uptake in amyloidosis. 2. 2. Functional brain activity in Alzheimer patients as studied by multi-tracer positron emission tomography : effects of treatment with cholinesterase inhibitors

    Author : Ahmadul Kadir; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Alzheimer’s disease; cholinesterase inhibitors; positron emission tomography; nicotinic acetylcholine receptor; acetylcholinesterase; multi-tracer; 11C-nicotine; 11C-PMP; 18F-FDG; 11C-PIB; donepezil; rivastigmine; galantamine; phenserine.;

    Abstract : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease accompanied by cognitive impairment and disturbances in several neurotransmitter systems, especially the cholinergic system. Studies have correlated the cognitive impairment observed in AD patients with a deficit in central cholinergic neurotransmission. READ MORE

  3. 3. Amyloid imaging in Alzheimer’s disease and mild cognitive impairment by positron emission tomography

    Author : Anton Forsberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Effectiveness of future treatment strategies in Alzheimer s disease (AD) will rely on early detection of disease and the possibility to clearly evaluate their effects. The findings presented in this thesis concerns both early in vivo detection of amyloid deposition in the brains of patients at risk of developing AD and the longitudinal changes of pathological and functional parameters in patients with AD. 4. 4. AL amyloidosis : Study of epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment with emphasis on heart involvement

    Author : Sara Rosengren; Kristina Carlson; Jens Sörensen; Stefan Schönland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; immunoglobulin light chain AL amyloidosis; high-dose melphalan; cardiac amyloidosis; positron emission tomography PET ; incidence; population-based; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : AL (immunoglobulin light chain) amyloidosis is often associated with delayed diagnosis and thereby high early mortality that is not overcome by contemporary treatment. There is a need for diagnostic methods promoting earlier diagnosis, especially in patients with cardiac involvement. READ MORE

  5. 5. Preclinical PET imaging of Alzheimer's disease progression

    Author : Xiaotian T. Fang; Stina Syvänen; Dag Sehlin; Lars Lannfelt; Merja Haaparanta-Solin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer s disease; transgenic mice; PET; antibody-based tracer; mGluR5; ABP688; di-scFv; amyloid-β;

    Abstract : Amyloid PET imaging with [11C]PIB enabled detection of Aβ for the first time in vivo. However, [11C]PIB is a small molecule that binds only the insoluble Aβ plaque. Rather, the soluble Aβ aggregates are considered the cause of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). READ MORE
