  1. 11. Altered cell signaling linked to neurodegeneration : Studies on scrapie-infected neuroblastoma cells and activated microglia

    Author : Christina Svensson; Tiit Land; Gianluigi Forloni; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prion disease; Inflammation; MAPK; Microglia activation; Neuroblastoma; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi; Neurochemistry and Neurotoxicology; neurokemi och neurotoxikologi;

    Abstract : Prion diseases are neurodegenerative disorders that can affect humans and animals. The underlying event is a conformational change of the normal cellular prion protein (PrPC) into an aberrant isoform termed PrP-scrapie (PrPSc). PrPSc is thought to lead to neurodegeneration and activation of glial cells. READ MORE

  2. 12. Improving radioimmunotargeting of tumors : the impact of extracorporeal immunoadsorption and preload in rats

    Author : Michael Garkavij; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cytology; preload.; immunoadsorption; MAb; rat; Tumor; radioimmunotargeting; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer;

    Abstract : In radioimmunotherapy of tumors, uptake of the monoclonal antibody (MAb) used is often too low in relation to its uptake in normal tissues. The purpose of these studies was to improve experimental tumor radioimmunotargeting with (a) extracorporeal immunoadsorption (ECIA), where excess of radiolabeled MAbs circulating in blood is removed, (b) or by preload with unlabeled MAb prior to injection of radiolabeled MAb, (c) or by a combination of these. 3. 13. The optic tectum of the salmon:site of interaction of neurohormonal photoperiodic and neural visual signals. The GABAergic neuronal system and melatonin receptors

    Author : Marie Anzelius; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Animal anatomy; melatonin receptors; GABA; optic tectum; fish; brain; animal morphology; Djurs anatomi och morfologi;

    Abstract : Melatonin is a neurohormone which mediates photoperiodic signals from the pineal organ to the brain. GABA (g-aminobutyric acid) is the major inhibitory transmitter in the central nervous system. READ MORE

  4. 14. On the Use of 76Br-labelled Monoclonal Antibodies for PET : Preclinical Evaluation of Halogenated Antibodies for Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer

    Author : Johanna Höglund; Katrine Riklund-Åhlström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; bromine-76; positron emission tomography; monoclonal antibodies; cancer; direct and indirect radiohalogenation; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; radiologi; Radiology;

    Abstract : Radioactive substances are used in vivo to localize and characterize malignant tumours, generally by scintigraphic methods. In this context positron emission tomography (PET) in combination with radiolabelled monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) may provide a sensitive and specific method for detection of cancer. READ MORE

  5. 15. Synthesis of biomolecules for nuclide therapy : Studies on amino acids, nucleosides and isoquinolines

    Author : Charlottta Naeslund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : Nuclide therapy for cancer is based on the selective delivery of nuclide bearing compounds to tumour cells. Radionuclides, such as 125I, may be used, as well as stable isotopes, such as 10B, which is activated on site by an external neutron source. READ MORE
