  1. 1. Bacterial identification by the 16S rRNA gene

    Author : Tobias Olofsson; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Livsmedelsteknik; Food and drink technology; Naturvetenskap; Natural science; mykologi; virologi; Mikrobiologi; mycology; virology; bacteriology; 16S rRNA; Microbiology; Identification; Bacteria; bakteriologi;

    Abstract : The identification and classification of bacteria was initially performed with morphological methods applied on cultivated bacteria. It was not until the mid 1970s, when sequences of ribosomal RNA were discovered to be useful for bacterial evolution, that a new era started. This method showed to be far more accurate for bacterial identification. READ MORE

  2. 2. Spatial mapping of bacteria and transcriptomes

    Author : Britta Lötstedt; Joakim Lundeberg; Anders F. Andersson; Petri Auvinen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spatial transcriptomics; 16S sequencing; antibody-based measurements; spatiell transkriptomik; 16S-sekvensering; antikroppsbaserade mätningar; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Abstract : Novel insights into biological functions and mechanisms, cell networks and evolutionary relationships are gained through development of sequencing technologies and sequencing based applications. Massively parallel sequencing has enabled analysis of big data at gene and protein expression levels, but has also characterized bacterial communities. READ MORE

    Abstract : Climate Change is caused by the accelerated increase of anthropogenic greenhousegas emissions to the atmosphere and affects all ecosystems on our planet. A resultof higher CO2 uptake by the oceans as well as an increase of heat trapped in theatmosphere leads to, for example acidification, stratification, sea-level rise, oxygenloss, and temperature increase of the earth’s waterbodies. 5. 5. Characterization of the Intestinal Microbiota by DNA-Based Methods

    Author : Mei Wang; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi; bacteriology; virology; Microbiology; Ulcerative colitis; T-RFLP; 16S rRNA; Brachyspira; Microbiota; Bacterial diversity; Bacterial translocation; Translocating bacteria;

    Abstract : The intestinal flora and the bacteria found in the extraintestinal sites were studied in liver injury rats, with or without Lactobacillus plantarum 299v pre-treatment. The dominating intestinal flora and translocating bacteria were typed by RAPD and identified by 16S rDNA sequencing. READ MORE
