1. Modelling, mapping and visualisation of flood inundation uncertainties
Abstract : Flood maps showing extents of predicted flooding for a given extreme event have wide usage in all types of spatial planning tasks, as well as serving as information material for the public. However, the production processes that these maps undergo (including the different data, methods, models and decisions from the persons generating them), which include both Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and hydraulic modelling, affect the map’s content, and will be reflected in the final map. 2. Overlapping Neural Substrates of Alcohol- and Anxiety-Related Behavior in the Rat
Abstract : Alcohol use is a leading cause of death and disease worldwide. A large part of this disease burden is associated with alcohol use disorder (AUD), a diagnostic category characterized by excessive use in spite of negative consequences ("compulsive use"), a loss of control over intake, and choice of alcohol over natural rewards. 3. The Diabetes Incidence Study in Sweden (DISS): Ascertainment, risk factors, and problems with classification
Abstract : The Diabetes Incidence Study in Sweden (DISS) registers diabetes in young adults aged 15-34 years in Sweden. This thesis aims to validate the ascertainment, methods in the classification of diabetes, and putative etiological factors such as family background, psychological stress, and BMI, that may affect the incidence of diabetes in young adults, in the DISS registry. 4. Initiation of ventilation, surfactant treatment, and lung function after preterm birth
Abstract : The thesis investigates lung function and the effects of rescue surfactant treatment in mechanically ventilated preterm human infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), and the effects of ventilation at birth on the response to surfactant supplementation in preterm lambs. To assess lung function, the author recorded static pressure-volume (P-V) curves during passive deflation from total lung capacity (TLC) to ambient pressure and measured end-expiratory lung volume (FRC) during mechanical ventilation by tracer gas washout. 5. Recovery from Acidification - Policy Oriented Dynamic Modeling
Abstract : Dynamic biogeochemistry models are important tools for determining the time-scales of recovery from acidification. In the review process of the 1999 UNECE LRTAP Gothenburg protocol, results from dynamic models will probably be included when determining further reductions of acidifying emissions. READ MORE
