    Abstract : Knowledge of dynamics in protein is very important in the description of protein function and molecular recognition. The thesis investigates protein dynamics on time-scales from milli- to sub-nanosecond, with focus on the latter, using NMR spin relaxation experiments on two proteins, the 138-residue carbohydrate recognition domain of galectin-3 (Gal3C) and the 56-residue B1 domain of bacterial protein G (PGB1). 2. 7. NMR STUDIES ON STRUCTURE AND DYNAMICS OF TWO-DOMAIN PROTEINS

    Author : Houman Ghasriani; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism; Physical chemistry; Molekylär biofysik; CRISP-3; NMR; 3D-structure; NMR relaxation; Molecular biophysics; Prostate cancer; EGF module; PSP94; Beta-microseminoprotein; Protein S;

    Abstract : The general objective of the present thesis work was to examine 3-dimensional structure as well as the motional properties of two different types of two-domain proteins by solution-state NMR. One of the major tasks of this thesis work was to investigate the domain orientation of these molecules by employing residual dipolar couplings (RDC) which can be used as orientational restraints for increasing the accuracy of protein structures determined by NMR. 3. 8. NMR studies of host-pathogen interactions

    Author : Katja Petzold; Jürgen Schleucher; Torleif Härd; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NMR; regulatory RNA; HBV; H.pylori; phospholipids; ROESY; Molecular biophysics; Molekylär biofysik; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the use of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) for characterizing two host-pathogen interactions: The behavior of a regulatory RNA of the Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and the attachment of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) to the gastric mucosa. READ MORE

  4. 9. Exploring the Molecular Behavior of Carbohydrates by NMR Spectroscopy : Shapes, motions and interactions

    Author : Olof Engström; Göran Widmalm; Anthony S. Serianni; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NMR spectroscopy; NMR relaxation; DNMR; CORCEMA-ST; carbohydrates; caffeine; O-antigen; glycofullerenes; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : Carbohydrates are essential biomolecules that decorate cell membranes and proteins in organisms. They are important both as structural elements and as identification markers. Many biological and pathogenic processes rely on the identification of carbohydrates by proteins, thereby making them attractive as molecular blueprints for drugs. READ MORE

  5. 10. Exploring the structure of oligo- and polysaccharides : Synthesis and NMR spectroscopy studies

    Author : Hanna Jonsson; Göran Widmalm; Antonio Molinaro; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbohydrates; NMR spectroscopy; synthesis; lipopolysaccharides; conformational studies; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : A deeper understanding of the diversity of carbohydrates and the many applications of oligo- and polysaccharides found in nature are of high interest. Many of the processes involving carbohydrates affect our everyday life. This thesis is based on six papers all contributing to an extended perspective of carbohydrate property and functionality.
