  1. 1. 1D engine simulation of a turbocharged SI engine with CFD computation on components

    Author : Ulrica Renberg; Hans-Erik Ångström; Laszlo Fuchs; Per Birkestad; KTH; []
    Keywords : 1D modeling; CFD modeling; turbine efficiency; pipe flow; turbocharged engine; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Techniques that can increase the SI- engine efficiency while keeping the emissions very low is to reduce the engine displacement volume combined with a charging system. Advanced systems are needed for an effective boosting of the engine and today 1D engine simulation tools are often used for their optimization. READ MORE

  2. 2. Coupled Simulations of Cooling and Engine Systems for Unsteady Analysis of the Benefits of Thermal Engine Encapsulation

    Author : Blago Minovski; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Oil system; Cooling system; Drive cycle; CFD simulations; Fuel consumption; Engine encapsulation; 1D simulations;

    Abstract : A well-designed engine encapsulation can extend engine cool-down time significantly - on the order of 500 - 700%. This is expected to have a sensitive influence on the fuel consumption due to the increased probability for high oil temperatures at the following engine start, reduced length of the initial warm-up period and consequently, reduced friction losses. 3. 3. Engine Encapsulation for Increased Fuel Efficiency of Road Vehicles

    Author : Blago Minovski; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; coupled simulations; powertain cooling systems; warm-up; 1D simulations; thermal engine encapsulation; cool-down; fuel consumption; numerical analysis; 3D CFD simulations;

    Abstract : Thermal engine encapsulation is an increasingly popular design choice, which insulates the engine from the external environment and retains heat in the engine after it is turned off. This decelerates motor cool-down and increases the probability for high initial temperature at a subsequent engine start, resulting in shorter warm-up and reduced friction between engine parts. 4. 4. Modelling of IC-Engine Intake Noise

    Author : Magnus Knutsson; Mats Åbom; Yves Auregán; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; IC-engine; intake noise; gas dynamics; linear source data; frequency domain; 2-port; losses; air cleaner unit; filter paper; flow; FEM; BEM; charge air cooler; narrow tube; Acoustics; Akustik;

    Abstract : Shorter product development cycles, densely packed engine compartments and intensified noiselegislation increase the need for accurate predictions of IC-engine air intake noise at earlystages. The urgent focus on the increasing CO2 emissions and the efficiency of IC-engines, aswell as new techniques such as homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) mightworsen the noise situation. 5. 5. Advancing the understanding of pilot ignition in dual fuel engines : Experimental and conceptual studies

    Author : Menno Merts; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Combustion engines; Dual fuel; RCCI; Pilot injection; renewable fuels; Conceptual model; LTC; Heavy duty; Marine; Start of combustion; Optical engine research;

    Abstract : The energy transition is looking for new technologies to reduce CO2 emissions. One of the promising options is the dual fuel engine. In this concept, based on a diesel engine, a small pilot diesel injection is used to ignite a second fuel. READ MORE
