  1. 11. Synchrotron radiation studies of gas phase molecules : from hydrogen to DNA sugars

    Author : Gemma Vall-llosera; Elisabeth Rachlew; Stacey Sorensen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; KTH thesis; synchrotron radiation; gas phase; bio molecules; Atomic and molecular physics; Atom- och molekylfysik;

    Abstract : This thesis summarises experimental results on the molecular spectroscopy of gas phase molecules excited by synchrotron radiation in the VUV and soft X-ray regions. We have used three different detection techniques, photon induced fluorescence spectroscopy, photoionisation mass spectroscopy and near edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy to study molecular deuterium, hydrogen sulphide, ammonia, methanol, pyridine, pyridazine, pyrimidine, pyrazine, s-triazine, and 2-deoxy-D-ribose, the last one also known as the DNA sugar. 2. 12. Ribosomal RNA dynamics studied by NMR-spectroscopy

    Author : Hampus Karlsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The ribosome is a large macromolecular machine that consists of both ribosomal proteins and ribosomal RNA (rRNA). It is a complex consisting of two subunits held together by non-covalent interactions, intersubunit bridges and some of these bridging interactions are mediated by the rRNA. READ MORE

  3. 13. Metabolic regulation and anticancer drug resistance in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Mattias Carlsson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Cancer is a malignant neoplastic tissue. The pyrimidine analogue 5-fluorouracil is an anticancer drug used against several types of cancer. It owes its specificity against neoplasms due to the higher rate of nutrient uptake, RNA and DNA synthesis, and in particular the higher rate of nucleobase scavenging and salvage of neoplastic cells. 4. 14. Molecular insights into mitochondrial DNA replication

    Author : Javier Miralles Fusté; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Mitochondria are organelles found in eukaryotic cells. These organelles produce most of the adenosine triphosphate that cells use as a source of energy. Mitochondria contain their own genomic material, a circular DNA genome (mtDNA) that encodes subunits of the respiratory chain complexes and RNA components needed for mitochondrial translation. 5. 15. Nucleoside analog phosphorylation and mitochondrial enzymes : studies on molecular targets of the anti-leukemic compound 9-beta-D-arabinofuranosylguanine

    Author : Sophie Curbo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Nucleoside analogs are commonly used in treatment of cancer and viral infections. A way to improve the therapies would be to minimize the acquirement of resistance and side effects such as delayed cytotoxicity. READ MORE
