    Abstract : Syntheses ofp-nitrophenyl 2-acetamido-3-0-(2-acetamido-2-deoxy-ß-Dglucopyranosyl)- 2-deoxy-ß-D-mannopyranosiduronic acidand p- -trifiuoroacetamidophenyl2-acetamido-4-0-(2-acetamido-2-deoxy-ß-D- -glucopyranosyl)-2-deoxy-ß-D-mannopyranosiduronic acid that corresponds to the repeating units of Haemophilus influenzae type d and e capsular antigens, are discussed. These were needed for immunological studies. READ MORE

  3. 3. Regional Lung Kinetics of Ventilator-Induced Lung Injury and Protective-Ventilation Strategies Studied by Dynamic Positron Emission Tomography

    Author : João Batista Borges; Anders Larsson; Giacomo Bellani; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : [18F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose; positron emission tomography; acute pulmonary inflammation; acute respiratory distress syndrome; mechanical ventilation; ventilator-induced lung injury;

    Abstract : Mechanical ventilation in itself can harm the lung and cause ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI), which can induce or aggravate acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Much debate remains over pivotal concepts regarding the pathophysiology of VILI, especially about the precise contribution, kinetics, and primary role of potential VILI mechanisms. READ MORE

  4. 4. Synthesis of Structures Related to the Capsular Polysaccharide of Neisseria meningitidis Serogroup A and to Mycothiol

    Author : Rikard Slättegård; Stefan Oscarson; Andrei Nikolaev; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neisseria meningitidis; Capsular polysaccharide; Mycobacterium tuberculosis; Mycothiol; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry; organisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the synthesis of structures related to the capsular polysaccharide of Neisseria meningitidis serogroup A and the synthesis of analogues of mycothiol, a compound produced by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The first part of the thesis describes the synthesis of structural elements present in the native capsular polysaccharide of Neisseria meningitidis serogroup A. READ MORE

  5. 5. Synchrotron radiation studies of gas phase molecules : from hydrogen to DNA sugars

    Author : Gemma Vall-llosera; Elisabeth Rachlew; Stacey Sorensen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; KTH thesis; synchrotron radiation; gas phase; bio molecules; Atomic and molecular physics; Atom- och molekylfysik;

    Abstract : This thesis summarises experimental results on the molecular spectroscopy of gas phase molecules excited by synchrotron radiation in the VUV and soft X-ray regions. We have used three different detection techniques, photon induced fluorescence spectroscopy, photoionisation mass spectroscopy and near edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy to study molecular deuterium, hydrogen sulphide, ammonia, methanol, pyridine, pyridazine, pyrimidine, pyrazine, s-triazine, and 2-deoxy-D-ribose, the last one also known as the DNA sugar.
