  1. 1. Stories of Pasts and Futures in Planning

    Author : Luciane Aguiar Borges; Hans Westlund; Åsa Svenfelt; Feras Hammami; Erik Westholm; KTH; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Stories; Pasts; Futures; Planning; Power; Planering och beslutsanalys; Planning and Decision Analysis;

    Abstract : Societies are constantly changing, facing new challenges and possibilities generated by innovative technologies, sociospatial re-structuring and mobilities. This research approaches these challenges by exploring the role that stories about pasts, presents and futures play in planning. READ MORE

  2. 2. Inference in Temporal Graphical Models

    Author : Jonas Hallgren; Timo Koski; Dubhashi Devdatt; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tillämpad matematik och beräkningsmatematik; Applied and Computational Mathematics;

    Abstract : This thesis develops mathematical tools used to model and forecast different economic phenomena. The primary starting point is the temporal graphical model. Four main topics, all with applications in finance, are studied. READ MORE

  3. 3. Suspended forestry machines for sustainable forestry

    Author : Abbos Ismoilov; Ulf Sellgren; Kjell Andersson; Viktor Berbyuk; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Machine Design; Maskinkonstruktion;

    Abstract : Cut-to-length (CTL) logging is a mechanized two-machine solution. The harvester processes treestems into smaller logs and a forwarder transports the logs from the logging site to a landing areaaccessible by trucks. READ MORE

  4. 4. Edge states and transition to turbulence in boundary layers

    Author : Taras Khapko; Dan Henningson; Philipp Schlatter; Yohann Duguet; Rich Kerswell; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; boundary layer; transition to turbulence; direct numerical simulation; edge state; free-stream turbulence; bypass transition; probabilistic cellular automaton; turbulence at the onset; laminar–turbulent coexistence; laminarisation; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis is the numerical study of subcritical transition to turbulence in boundary-layer flows. For the most part, boundary layers with uniform suction are considered. Constant homogeneous suction counteracts the spatial growth of the boundary layer, rendering the flow parallel. READ MORE

  5. 5. Functional Relevance of Homeostatic Intrinsic Plasticity in Neurons and Networks

    Author : Yann Sweeney; Jeanette Hällgren Kotaleski; Matthias Hennig; Thomas Nowotny; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computer Science; Datalogi;

    Abstract : Maintaining the intrinsic excitability of neurons is crucial for stable brain activity. This can be achieved by the homeostatic regulation of membrane ion channel conductances, although it is not well understood how these processes influence broader aspects of neuron and network function.
