  2. 2. Direct Thrombin Inhibitors in Treatment and Prevention of Venous Thromboembolism: Dose – Concentration – Response Relationships

    Author : Marie Cullberg; Mats O. Karlsson; Ulf G. Eriksson; Nick H.G. Holford; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Pharmaceutical biosciences; Ximelagatran; pharmacokinetic; pharmacodynamic; activated partial thromboplastin time; utility function; dosing strategy; venous thromboembolism; NONMEM; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap;

    Abstract : For prevention and treatment of thrombotic diseases with an anticoagulant drug it is important that an adequate dose is given to avoid occurrence or recurrence of thrombosis, without increasing the risk of bleeding and other adverse events to unacceptable levels. The aim of this thesis was to develop mathematical models that describe the dose-concentration (pharmacokinetic) and concentration-response (pharmacodynamic) relationships of direct thrombin inhibitors, in order to estimate optimal dosages for treatment and long-term secondary prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE). 3. 3. Modern men : A Norwegian 30-year longitudinal study of intergenerational transmission and social change

    Author : Margunn Bjørnholt; Liisa Husu; Anna G. Jónasdóttir; Karen Henwood; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; fathering; intergenerational transmission; longitudinal qualitative research; masculinities; men; part-time; social change; work–family; Gender Studies; Genusvetenskap;

    Abstract : The dissertation addresses men and change, intergenerational transmission, historical change and agency, employing as a case a longitudinal follow-up study over two generations of men, where the fathers participated in an experimental research project, the Work-Sharing Couples Project, which aimed to promote egalitarian work–family adaptations in Norway in the early 1970s. The original project was based on both spouses working part-time and shift parenting. READ MORE

  4. 4. Haptic and visual simulation of material cutting process : a study focused on bone surgery and the use of simulators for education and training

    Author : Magnus G. Eriksson; Jan Wikander; Ingela Nyström; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; surgical simulation; virtual reality; haptic feedback; surgical training; medical simulators; metrics; 3D visualization; Medical technology; Medicinsk teknik;

    Abstract : A prototype of a haptic and virtual reality simulator has been developed for simulation of the bone milling and material removal process occurring in several operations, e.g. temporal bone surgery or dental milling. The milling phase of an operation is difficult, safety critical and very time consuming. READ MORE

  5. 5. Echocardiography in myocardial infarction : aspects on diastolic function and evaluation by cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging

    Author : Martin G Sundqvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Echocardiography is routinely used to evaluate patients with known or suspected myocardial infarction (MI). Cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) provides the ability to quantify myocardial infarction size (IS), and to establish an underlying diagnosis in MI cases with nonobstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA).
