1. In situ remediation of contaminated sediments using thin-layer capping : efficiency in contaminant retention and ecological implications
Abstract : Hydrophobic organic contaminants (HOCs) often reside in sediments sorbed to particles, most tightly to particles with high content of organic carbon. If persistent, such pollutants can accumulate in the sediment for many years and constitute a contamination risk for sediment-living organisms and organisms at higher trophic levels, including humans. 2. Drivers of carbon sink function in tropical seagrass beds : influence of carbon import, plant composition, seascape configuration and human activities
Abstract : Seagrass meadows are effective carbon sinks, sequestering atmospheric CO2 and capturing allochthonous organic material, storing organic carbon (Corg) in their sediments, so called Blue Carbon. In tropical areas, seagrass meadows have a high number of calcareous organisms, which can offset carbon sequestration by releasing CO2 through their calcification. READ MORE

3. Speleothems as environmental recorders : A study of Holocene speleothems and their growth environments in Sweden
Abstract : The main aim of this thesis was to contribute with detailed information of regional environmental change during the Holocene through studies of speleothems and their growth environments from two caves, Korallgrottan and Labyrintgrottan in northwestern Sweden, and a cellar vault in Uppsala. This was done through studies of stable isotopes and luminescence properties in the speleothems in combination with a detailed monitoring study in Korallgrottan. READ MORE

4. Figuring Worlds; Imagining Paths : A Feminist Exploration of Identities in Higher Education Biology
Abstract : Higher education biology is a natural science discipline that is numerically female biased on undergraduate level across most international contexts. In Sweden, Germany, and the UK, for example, more than 60% of all undergraduate students are women. READ MORE

5. The Macroeconomics of the Term Structure of Interest Rates
Abstract : This thesis consists of four papers, summarized as follows. "The Term Structure of Interest Rates and the Monetary Transmission Mechanism" This paper provides empirical evidence that the term structure of interest rates is an integral part of the monetary transmission mechanism. READ MORE
