  1. 1. NMR STUDIES ON STRUCTURE AND DYNAMICS OF TWO-DOMAIN PROTEINS

    Author : Houman Ghasriani; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism; Physical chemistry; Molekylär biofysik; CRISP-3; NMR; 3D-structure; NMR relaxation; Molecular biophysics; Prostate cancer; EGF module; PSP94; Beta-microseminoprotein; Protein S;

    Abstract : The general objective of the present thesis work was to examine 3-dimensional structure as well as the motional properties of two different types of two-domain proteins by solution-state NMR. One of the major tasks of this thesis work was to investigate the domain orientation of these molecules by employing residual dipolar couplings (RDC) which can be used as orientational restraints for increasing the accuracy of protein structures determined by NMR. 2. 2. Structural and Functional Studies of the Wilms' Tumour 1 Protein (WT1) in Interaction with Nucleic acids

    Author : Raymond Yengo Kimbung; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; WT1; Zinc finger; Structure; Transcription factor;

    Abstract : The WT1 protein, a product of the Wilms’ tumour 1 gene (WT1) is a zinc finger transcription factor implicated in a number of cellular processes particularly involved in the development of the urogenital system. Mutations in this gene have been implicated in abnormal development of the urogenital system resulting in syndromes such as the Denys-Drash, WAGR and Frasier and in the childhood kidney malignancy, Wilms’ tumour. 3. 3. A journey towards complete structure determination of zeolites by electron crystallography methods

    Author : Elina Kapaca; Xiaodong Zou; Philippe Boullay; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electron crystallography; Zeolites; Structure determination; Rotation electron diffraction; Continuous rotation electron diffraction; Disorder; Inorganic Chemistry; oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : Electron crystallography has recently become very successful for structural studies of materials with sub-micrometer sized crystals. In this thesis two major techniques have been applied for structure elucidation – 3-dimensional electron diffraction (3D ED) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) imaging. 4. 4. Nanocellulose based 3D printed hydrogel scaffolds for cartilage and bone regeneration : Tuning of composition, pore structure and functions

    Author : Sahar Sultan; Aji P. Mathew; Lennart Bergström; Gustav Nyström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nanocellulose materials; 3D printing; gradient biphasic hydrogel scaffolds; metal-organic frameworks; hydroxyapatite; cartilage and bone regeneration; osteochondral scaffolds; materialkemi; Materials Chemistry;

    Abstract : Biobased-materials with customized scaffolds have played a prominent role in the success of tissue engineering (TE). Cellulose nanomaterials (CNM) isolated from the abundant biopolymer, cellulose, is explored in this thesis for TE engineering due to its versatile properties such as biocompatibility, high specific strength, surface functionality and water retention capacity. 5. 5. Grain Morphology and Intergranular Structure of Si3N4 and Al2O3 Based Ceramics

    Author : Håkan Björklund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; whiskers; stereology; electron microscopy; sintering; silicon nitride; quantitative microscopy; grain growth; ceramics; microstructure; aluminium oxide;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns factors controlling the grain morphology in Si3N4 and Al2O3 based ceramics. The microstructures of the ceramics were characterized by scanning electron microscopy in combination with quantitative microscopy and stereologic methods. READ MORE
