  1. 1. Characterizing Chromatography Media : NMR-based Approaches

    Author : Fredrik Elwinger; István Furó; Stéphane Viel; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chromatography; nuclear magnetic resonance; NMR; self-diffusion; magic-angle spinning; quantitative; distribution coefficient; pore size; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Liquid chromatography is an essential technique in manufacturing biopharmaceuticals where it is used on all scales from analytical applications in R&D to full-scale production. In chromatography the target molecule, typically a protein, is separated and purified from other components and contaminants. READ MORE

  2. 2. Analysis and speciation of organic phosphorus in environmental matrices : Development of methods to improve 31P NMR analysis

    Author : Johan Vestergren; Gröbner Gerhard; Jurgen Schleucher; Ulrik Ilstedt; Per Persson; Reiner Giesler; Benjamin L. Turner; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phosphorus; soil; 31P NMR; NaOH EDTA; terrestrial; sulfide; speciation; bioavailability; paramagnetic; humus; boreal; tropical; multi-dimensional; agroforestry; chronosequence; fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry;

    Abstract : Phosphorus (P) is an essential element for life on our planet. It is central in numerous biochemical processes in terrestrial and aqueous ecosystems including food production; and it is the primary growth-limiting nutrient in some of the world’s biomes. READ MORE

  3. 3. NMR studies of host-pathogen interactions

    Author : Katja Petzold; Jürgen Schleucher; Torleif Härd; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : This thesis describes the use of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) for characterizing two host-pathogen interactions: The behavior of a regulatory RNA of the Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and the attachment of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) to the gastric mucosa. READ MORE

  4. 4. Nuclear magnetic resonance studies on bentonite in complex mixed systems

    Author : Alexander S. Goryan; Willis Forsling; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bentonite; montmorillonite; 23Na; 31P; 29Si NMR; interaction; ion exchange; sorption; Chemistry of Interfaces; Gränsytors kemi;

    Abstract : In this work 23Na MAS NMR was validated as a successful quantitative method for studies of exchanging sodium in bentonites useful, in particular, for studies of ion-exchange kinetics. Na-enriched bentonites equilibrated in a re-circulated process water at iron-oxide pelletizing plants may acquire properties of Ca-bentonites after already 20 minutes of the equilibration time, since >50 % of sodium ions will be exchanged by calcium ions during first minutes of bentonite placed in contact with the process water. 5. 5. Vanadate and Peroxovanadate Complexes of Biomedical Relevance : A speciation approach with focus on diabetes

    Author : András Gorzsás; Lage Pettersson; Carlos F. G. C. Geraldes; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic chemistry; vanadium; hydrogen peroxide; lactate; citrate; phosphate; alanyl serine; picolinic acid; speciation; formation constants; equilibrium; solution structure; potentiometry; NMR 51V; 31P; 13C; 1H ; Oorganisk kemi; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi; oorganisk kemi; Inorganic Chemistry;

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus is one of the most threatening epidemics of modern times with rapidly increasing incidence. Vanadium and peroxovanadium compounds have been shown to exert insulin–like actions and, in contrast to insulin, are orally applicable. However, problems with side–effects and toxicity remain.
