  1. 1. 3D Time-lapse Analysis of Seismic Reflection Data to Characterize the Reservoir at the Ketzin CO2 Storage Pilot Site

    Author : Fei Huang; Christopher Juhlin; Alireza Malehmir; Ari Tryggvason; Andy Chadwick; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; CO2 storage; 3D Time-lapse 4D ; Reservoir characterization; Seismic simulation; Spectral decomposition; Wavelet phase; Tuning frequency; Thin-layer thickness; Seismic monitoring; Seismic processing; Quantitative interpretation; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Abstract : 3D time-lapse seismics, also known as 4D seismics, have great potential for monitoring the migration of CO2 at underground storage sites. This thesis focuses on time-lapse analysis of 3D seismic reflection data acquired at the Ketzin CO2 geological storage site in order to improve understanding of the reservoir and how CO2 migrates within it. 2. 2. A geophysical investigation of carbonate build-ups in the Baltic Basin using reflection seismic and well data

    Author : Tegan Levendal; Christopher Juhlin; Lars Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Reflection seismic; Ordovician; Silurian; Carbonate mud mounds; Reefs; Gotland; Sweden; CAES; Seismic interpretation; OPAB dataset; 3D seismic; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Abstract : During the Late Ordovician, the region around Gotland was part of a shallow epicratonic basin in the southern subtropics. Low latitudes, relatively warm sea temperatures and the presence of a shallow marine environment promoted algae to flourish and diverse carbonate build-ups such as carbonate mounds and reefs developed on the southern margin of Baltica. 3. 3. Seismic imaging of volcanogenic massive sulphide deposits : From legacy to innovative surveys

    Author : George A. Donoso; Alireza Malehmir; Beatriz Benjumea; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Seismic imaging; 3D seismic; Data processing; volcanogenic massive sulphides;

    Abstract : The volcanogenic massive sulphide deposits at the Neves-Corvo mine area, part of the Iberian Pyrite Belt in southern Portugal, were studied using seismic methods.  Three distinct reflection seismic datasets were used in this study: a 2D legacy data from 1996, an innovative 2019 surface and in-mine acquisition, and a 2011 3D seismic survey. 4. 4. 2D and 3D Seismic Surveying at the CO2SINK Project Site, Ketzin, Germany: The Potential for Imaging the Shallow Subsurface

    Author : Sawasdee Yordkayhun; Christopher Juhlin; Charlotte Krawczyk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inversion; Traveltime tomography; 3D seismic surveys; Seismic velocity; Seismic source; CO2SINK project; Geophysics; Geofysik;

    Abstract : Seismic traveltime inversion, traveltime tomography and seismic reflection techniques have been applied for two dimensional (2D) and three dimensional (3D) data acquired in conjunction with site characterization and monitoring aspects at a carbon dioxide (CO2) geological storage site at Ketzin, Germany (the CO2SINK project). Conventional seismic methods that focused on investigating the CO2 storage and caprock formations showed a poor or no image of the upper 150 m. READ MORE

  5. 5. Reflection seismic investigation in the Skellefte ore district : A basis for 3D/4D geological modeling

    Author : Mahdieh Dehghannejad; Christopher Juhlin; Ari Tryggvason; Charles Hurich; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Skellefte district; reflection seismic; mineral exploration; 3D 4D modeling; mineralization; faults and shear zones; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Abstract : The Skellefte ore district in northern Sweden is a Palaeoproterozoic volcanic arc and one of the most important ones hosting volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits, producing mainly base metals and orogenic gold deposits. Due to high metal prices and increased difficulties in finding shallow deposits, the exploration for and exploitation of mineral resources is quickly being moved to greater depths. READ MORE
