  1. 1. The structural basis for the catalytic specificity of manganese lipoxygenases : 3D structure analysis of the lipoxygenase of Magnaporthe oryzae

    Author : Anneli Wennman; Ernst H. Oliw; Marcia Newcomer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; oxylipin; lipoxygenase; crystal structure; crystallography; HPLC; mass spectrometry; yeast; site-directed mutagenesis; fungi; Biochemical Pharmacology; Biokemisk farmakologi;

    Abstract : Lipoxygenases (LOX) catalyze regio- and stereospecific oxygenation of polyunsaturated fatty acids to hydroperoxides. These hydroperoxides are further metabolized to leukotrienes and lipoxins in mammals, and are involved in asthma and inflammation. LOX of animals and plants contain iron as catalytic metal (FeLOX). 2. 2. Prediction of 3D structures of oligosaccharides. Methodological development and studies on saccharide antigens of interest for vaccine design

    Author : Jimmy Rosen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Oligosaccharide; conformation; 3D structure; O-antigen; Shigella dysenteriae; Escherichia coli; Burkholderia cepacia; Schistosoma mansoni; filtered systematic search; genetic algorithm;

    Abstract : This thesis presents 3D structure predictions of five immunologically active surfacepolysaccharides of pathogens, which are of interest as targets for development of glycoconjugatevaccines. Furthermore it describes two methods which have been used for theconformational predictionsThe Shigella dysenteriae type 2 Oantigenwas predicted to form a compact helicalstructure with three repeating pentasaccharide units per turn. 3. 3. NMR STUDIES ON STRUCTURE AND DYNAMICS OF TWO-DOMAIN PROTEINS

    Author : Houman Ghasriani; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism; Physical chemistry; Molekylär biofysik; CRISP-3; NMR; 3D-structure; NMR relaxation; Molecular biophysics; Prostate cancer; EGF module; PSP94; Beta-microseminoprotein; Protein S;

    Abstract : The general objective of the present thesis work was to examine 3-dimensional structure as well as the motional properties of two different types of two-domain proteins by solution-state NMR. One of the major tasks of this thesis work was to investigate the domain orientation of these molecules by employing residual dipolar couplings (RDC) which can be used as orientational restraints for increasing the accuracy of protein structures determined by NMR. 4. 4. Nano-particulate Silica Hydrogels Imaged in 2D and 3D using TEM: Effects of local pore structure on mass transport and applications in aggregation dynamics

    Author : Charlotte Hamngren Blomqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; silica gel; colloidal silica gel; interconnectivity; nanoporous; electron tomography; silica nanoparticle gel; mass transport; nanostructure; accessible volume fraction; 3D structure;

    Abstract : Porous materials are frequently used in everyday applications including food science, pharmaceuticals, fuel cell membranes, batteries and solar cells. A key aspect in these porous materials is how their micro- and nano-structure affect the internal transport of for example water, particles or charges. The transport is a three-dimensional process. 5. 5. 3D Structure and Emplacement of the Alnö Alkaline and Carbonatite Complex, Sweden : Integrated Geophysical and Physical Property Investigations

    Author : Magnus Andersson; Alireza Malehmir; Valentin R. Troll; Bjarne Almqvist; Odleiv Olesen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alnö; carbonatite; caldera; reflection seismic; anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility; gravity; magnetic; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik;

    Abstract : Carbonatites are carbonate-rich magmatic rocks that are rare and of great relevance for our understanding of crustal and mantle processes. Although found on all continents and in settings ranging from Archaean to present-day, their deeper plumbing system is still poorly understood. READ MORE
