  1. 1. Cobalt and Nickel Bioavailability for Biogas Formation

    Author : Jenny Gustavsson; Bo Svensson; Anna Karlsson; Piet N.L. Lens; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Biogas production; bioavailability; cobalt; nickel; sequential extraction; S XANES; 454-pyrosequencing.; Biogasproduktion; biotillgänglighet; kobolt; nickel; sekventiell extraktion; S XANES; 454-pyrosekvensering;

    Abstract : Supplementation of trace metals such as Co and Ni may improve anaerobic digestion of organic material for biogas formation. Which trace metals that are needed and the quantity to apply are, at least partly, related to metal speciation and bioavailability. READ MORE

  2. 2. Distribution and activity of nitrogen-fixing bacteria in marine and estuarine waters

    Author : Hanna Farnelid; Lasse Riemann; Jonathan Zehr; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 454-pyrosequencing; diazotrophs; heterotrophic bacteria; marine bacteria; marine microbial ecology; microbiology; nifH; nitrogenase; nitrogen fixation; PCR; qPCR; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : In aquatic environments the availability of nitrogen (N) generally limits primary production. N2-fixing prokaryotes (diazotrophs) can convert N2 gas into ammonium and provide significant input of N into the oceans. Cyanobacteria are thought to be the main N2-fixers but diazotrophs also include a wide range of heterotrophic bacteria. READ MORE

  3. 3. Recruitment ecology and fungal interactions in mycoheterotrophic Ericaceae

    Author : Veronika A. Johansson; Ove Eriksson; Andrew Taylor; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 454 Pyrosequencing; Dispersal limitation; Dust seeds; Ectomycorrhiza; Ericaceae; Microsite limitation; Monotropa hypopitys; Mycoheterotroph; Pyroleae; Seed limitation; Stable isotopes; Subterranean seedling; Symbiotic germination; Tricholoma; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Abstract : There are generally two contrasting alternatives to what limits recruitment in plants, namely the availability of seeds (seed limitation) or the quality or quantity of suitable sites (microsite limitation). Dust seeds, the smallest existing seeds, lack or have minimal nutrient reserves. READ MORE

  4. 4. Root-associated microbial communities of different strawberry cultivars as influenced by soil type, Verticillium dahliae Kleb. and biofumigation

    Author : Srivathsa Nallanchakravarthula; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Rhizosphere microorganisms and their interactions with plant roots play pivotal roles in controlling plant nutrition and health. Extremely high levels of soil microbial diversity, coupled with low levels of cultivability, complicate the study of these organisms but better mechanistic understanding of their interactions with each other and with plant roots is a prerequisite for development of sustainable management strategies to improve nutrient acquisition and control pathogens. 5. 5. Molecular characterization of the dynamics and development of the human microbiota

    Author : Hedvig Engström Jakobsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The human body contains an enormous amount of bacteria, which are important in processes such as colonization resistance, digestion of food particles, and in the development of the immune system. Most host-microbe interactions are not harmful. READ MORE
