  1. 1. Studies on coactosin-like protein interaction with 5-lipoxygenase

    Author : Marija Rakonjac; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Leukotrienes (LTs) are proinflammatory lipid mediators derived from polyunsaturated arachidonic acid, which is ester-bound at the sn-2 position of glycerol in cellular phospholipid bilayers. In LTs biosynthesis, 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO) represents the key enzyme, which catalyzes two initial steps. READ MORE

  2. 2. Insight into 5-lipoxygenase biocatalysis and interaction with membrane components

    Author : Ramakrishnan B Kumar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Inflammation is one of the innate defence mechanisms exerted by the human body for protection and to initiate the healing process. Chronic inflammatory reactions can lead to several disease conditions like asthma, allergic rhinitis and rheumatoid arthritis. READ MORE

  3. 3. New molecular markers in mantle cell lymphoma : studies of cannabinoid receptors, 5-lipoxygenase and SOX11

    Author : Xiao Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a malignant B-cell lymphoma that accounts for 5-10% of all lymphomas and tends to occur in older adults with a higher incidence in males. The genetic hallmark of this neoplasm is the t(11;14) translocation which results in overexpression of nuclear cyclin D1. READ MORE

  4. 4. 5-Lipoxygenase : studies on the active site iron, and on the stimulatory factors Ca2+ and ATP

    Author : Tove Hammarberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : non-heme iron centre; ATP binding; Ca2 binding; C2 domain;

    Abstract : Human 5-lipoxygenase (5LO) is a monomeric non-heme iron enzyme, which catalyses the first two steps in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes: oxygenation of arachidonic acid to yield 5(S)-hydroperoxy-6-trans-8,11,14-cis-eicosatetraenoic acid (5-HPETE) and the subsequent dehydration to form the unstable epoxide intermediate 5(S)-trans-5,6-oxido7,9-trans-11,14-cis-eicosatetraenoic acid. The latter compound (leukotriene A4), is the precursor of the biologically active leukotrienes B4, C4, D4 and E4, which are regarded as critical mediators in asthma and other inflammatory and allergic disorders. 5. 5. Non-invasive analysis of leukotrienes as biomarkers of airway inflammation : method development and clinical applications

    Author : Flora Gaber; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Airway inflammation; aspirin-intolerant asthma; biomarker; exhaled breath condensate; FENO; induced sputum; leukotrienes; 5-lipoxygenase; non-invasive analysis; saliva;

    Abstract : Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are two common diseases characterized by chronic airway inflammation, but the inflammation in asthma is different from the one in COPD. In addition, asthma is a heterogeneous disease presenting with many different phenotypes (e.g. READ MORE
